News in brief:

KLM / Air France business class sale

British Airways has just launched a business and First sale which we will cover tomorrow (you can find the details here if you want to take a look now) once we’ve had a look through it.

In the meantime, KLM and Air France have launched some ‘not bad’ business class deals departing from the UK.  Given that KLM has a huge network of UK regional departures to Amsterdam, these will be convenient deals for anyone outside London.

Headline prices include:

  • Quito £1,796
  • Dubai £1,329
  • Amman £959
  • Beirut £939
  • Cape Town £2,264
  • Beijing £1,929
  • Bangkok £1,649
  • Havana £1,848
  • Kigali £1,572
  • Mauritius £1,610
  • Panama City £1,545

…. amongst others.  You need to book by 14th March.

You can book on either the KLM site here or the Air France site here.  You should see the same offers across both airlines on both sites.

Here is my review of Air France business class on a Boeing 777-300ER, but beware that only half of Air France’s long haul aircraft have fully flat business class seats.

At the moment you need to credit Air France / KLM flights to Flying Blue or another SkyTeam frequent flyer programme, but it is possible you will be able to credit them to Virgin Flying Club by the time you fly.

Iberia Express offering 25% off Avios redemptions to Madrid

Iberia Express is offering 25% off Avios redemptions from Birmingham or Manchester to Madrid.

This means that Economy tickets are 5,625 Avios each way.  You need to book via Iberia Plus which means moving your Avios across from BA via ‘Combine My Avios’.  If ‘Combine My Avios’ is not working, open an Aer Lingus AerClub account, use the details to log in at and use ‘Combine My Avios’ from there.

Details are on the Iberia website here.  You need to book by 30th April and fly by 20th June.  The period 11th – 22nd April is excluded.

My review of Iberia Express business class (yes, it has one) is here.  Our past Madrid hotel reviews include the new Hyatt Centric here, Westin Palace here and impressive Gran Melia Palacio Los Duques here.

40,000 Lufthansa Miles & More miles for €586

This is not an incredibly cheap deal, but you need to remember that you can’t buy Miles & More miles.  If you want to top up your account, you are reliant on a transfer from a hotel programme.  Via American Express Membership Rewards, the best route – which still isn’t great – is via Marriott Bonvoy.  1,000 Amex = 1,500 Marriott = 500 Miles & More.

Here’s the offer.  For €586, you can buy a digital subscription to Germany newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.   The link is hereThis comes with 40,000 Miles & More miles.

You are paying 1.25p per mile.  This is not cheap but if you have a firm plan for the miles it might make sense.  Thanks to Jan for this.

O/T sorry if this is a frequent question .
How long does a Tesco Clubcard to BA Exec Club Avios transfer take please?

  2. O/T I just got 1 avios on my Iberia Plus account as Avios Award Prueba (Shopping). This would suggest some kind of test. Anyone else?

    • Shoestring says:

was that the shop? Prueba is unknown to me as a shop! means trial also can give you points to renew the expiry date
