IHG Rewards Club, the loyalty scheme covering InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza etc, has launched its new Summer promotion.

It is another version of the long-running Accelerate offer, although this time it is called “Make Every Stay Count”.

You can find out your targets, and register, on the IHG website here.

It is valid for stays between 1st May and 31st August.

At present, there is a bug which seems to be stopping some people – including me – from registering.  You get a message saying that you are ineligible, but that seems unlikely given that ‘Accelerate’ offers are open to all.

I had no issues on my wife’s account.  Once I had registered my wife, she got the following targets:

10,000 bonus points for staying five nights

14,400 bonus points for staying at three different IHG brands

5,600 bonus points for 2 x 2-night weekend stays (Saturday plus another night)

4,500 bonus points for booking one ‘points and cash’ stay

2,800 points for staying at two different IHG hotels

Unusually, there is no additional bonus for completing all or most of the separate targets.

This isn’t a bad deal for my wife.  The first, second and fifth ones cut across each other, so a total of five nights, which takes in three different brands and two different hotels, will trigger (10,000 + 14,400 + 2,800) 27,200 bonus points.

Based on my 0.4p valuation of an IHG Rewards Club point, that is worth £109 or (divided by 5 nights) £22 back per night.  This assumes she does exactly five nights across three brands.  It isn’t worth doing a mattress run to hit this, but if we can point a few nights in IHG’s direction over the next four months it will be worthwhile.

As usual with IHG promotions, existing stays will count and do not need to be rebooked.  The only exception in the past has been for any target you have which insists on booking via the IHG app.

Conclusion

The new IHG Rewards Club promotion is OK.  My wife has a less generous target than she did in the spring, and of course I can’t even see my target yet.

Hilton Honors is offering ‘double base points’ as we wrote about here (you can register here).  If you do a lot of short, low cost stays then the new IHG offer may work out better, whilst Hilton might be better for short, expensive trips.  It is all down to your personal IHG Accelerate targets though.  We don’t yet know what Marriott Bonvoy will be offering for the Summer.

I strongly recommend signing up now given that the new IHG promotion is valid for stays from Wednesday night.  Even if you have no stays planned I would still register as 31st August is a long way away.

You can register for the new IHG Accelerate promotion here.

  • Czechoslovakia says:

    Oh no, I’m not eligible….

  • meta says:

When I register it says: “We are experiencing technical difficulties. Please try back soon”. I guess it is not fully live yet.

    • meta says:

My partner got the message about not being eligible and then an email to confirm the registration. Obviously technical issues.

      • Rob says:

No email for me and if I try to sign-in again I still get the message. They’ve been running this offer for how many years now?!

        • Nick says:

There customer service is shocking – I’ve given up trying to claim 9000 points from new member offer I have completed – most of time they reply to me with information about rewards night faster a totally different promotion to the new member offer….

After 10 or so emails got 6000 good will points as they told me I was right but IT error means won’t credit them automatically.

        • meta says:

Ha ha. The campaign is called Accelerate May 2019. I thought they changed the name to Rewards Night Faster. 🙄

          • Rob says:

What I meant was …. they have been running exactly the same style of offer, with the same registration process, for about 4 years now – so how come they still don’t have it running like clockwork?

        • Mark says:

          Rob –
I got a decent offer – 79k pts for possible 4-5 nights. But my OH who has 50k+points in her account but has not stayed for a year got “not eligible”.
Do you think this is actaully a **targetted** scheme this time round?

  • Neil says:

I got a shocking offer of staying @ 2 Crowne Plaza Hotels for 6,600 and like you Rob 4,500 bonus points for booking one ‘points and cash’ stay. Looks like it’s over to Hilton for 21 paid nights and thank you very much for the Hilton update. The offer isn’t bad if it’s an extra 15,000 points on night 15.

  • Sergey says:

    Mine is super-useless this time.

  • Allycat says:

    I get the following message:

Oh, no! Based on your current earning preference, you aren’t eligible for this offer. But here are others you might like:

  • Robert says:

12,000 points or staying 6 nights
10,800 points for staying at 3 brands
11,200 points for staying at 2 InterContinental hotels
5,600 points for staying 2 weekends, including a Saturday night and another night
4,500 points for booking 1 stay using Points & Cash
6,600 points for booking 3 Bonus Points Package stays.

  • Nick says:

Do stays already booked during this period count if you register ?

    • Rob says:

Yes – with the possible exception of any targets which insist you book via their app.

      • Nick says:

Oh I could be on to a winner then got a lot booked for July and August already.

        Thanks !

        • John says:

You should read the T&Cs, sometimes they say “bonus points will be awarded after the member BOOKS AND consumes required number of stays between [dates]”.

If the words BOOKS AND are not there it should be fine

  • SammyJ says:

Mine says I’m ineligible (platinum) but my husband’s (gold, infrequent user) has the following list… nothing like rewarding the regulars!

    Earn 66,200 points:

Stay at 2 brands and get 12,600 bonus points.

Stay at 2 Holiday Inn® hotel(s)—including Holiday Inn Resort® and Holiday Inn Club Vacations®—and earn 8,400 bonus points

Book 1 stay(s) using Points & Cash and earn 4,500 bonus points.

Earn 6,600 bonus points when you book 2 Bonus Points Package stay(s)

Earn 12,000 bonus points when you book 2 stay(s) of 4 or more consecutive nights.

    Your Achievement Bonus
Complete 5 of the 5 offers and earn (an additional) 22,100 bonus points
