  I’ve tried many banh mi but have never had a great one in the UK. I had a few OK ones in Vietnam, where they shove in slabs of pâté.

  But the banh mi opposite the large Tang Frères (a Vietnamese supermarket in Paris, 13th Arr), are an absolute priority anytime we happen to be in Paris. It’s the bread that makes it.

    I fell very badly in Hoi An. During my treatment by a back street doctor who I found on TripAdvisor (…), he went out for his lunch and offered me (not any of the other patients, yes I know why) some “bread”. He came back with what seemed to me at that time of great discomfort to be the most delicious thing I’ve ever tasted, a banh mi filled to the brim with chunks (rather than slices) of barbecued pork, fat wedges of pate and enormous quantities of fresh herbs. I wolfed it down in front of tens of disapproving locals’ relatives on stacked cots made of woven twigs in what was effectively a field hospital.

    I will never forget that meal.

  The female cabin crew wear traditional Vietnamese aozai/aodai dresses (as shown in the top picture). Stunning costumes. I flew VN Y long haul in 2006 and the service and food were both good. Vietnamese food is generally very tasty.

  Hi staying at intercontinental Danang in a few months time anyone any tips. Haven’t booked club lounge as it would be approx £400 a day for 2 rooms and didn’t know if it was worth it?

    It could be. The restaurants on site are extremely expensive for what you get. I think we paid £120 for two dishes of pasta and two glasses of wine in the “Barefoot” restaurant. Breakfast I think £30-35 per head. My view is that you can get value out of the lounge if you eat the breakfast, tea and canapés and have about 3 cocktails each. We paid £165 per day for 2 people. I had to argue them down to this as a Spire Ambassador. Be prepared for the hotel being a good distance from anywhere. It’s massive. I think we could have cut down the time we spent there. 4 days would be enough. Lots and lots of people taking Instagram photos of themselves and even bringing their own photographers with them….

    That hotel is a waste of time – it’s a rip off! Much nicer and better (and oc, way cheaper) somwhere else.

  We used Vietnam Airlines to fly to and around Vietnam back in November 2017. I think it cost us about £700 each to fly there and back and five internal flights.

  We asked about upgrades to premium economy and managed to pay £150 each to upgrade from LHR to HAN. It was at least as good as BA.

  I would highly recommend Vietnam to anyone who hasn’t been. A truly spectacular country – and amazing food!
