NCP has launched a limited-time airport parking sale.

NCP is offering a 5% discount until Friday when you book any of the following airport car parks:

  • Birmingham Car Park 1 and Car Park 2 & 3
  • Norwich Short Stay and Long Stay

NCP airport parking discount code

  • Edinburgh Scotpark
  • Glasgow Short Stay Car Park 2 and Long Stay
  • Heathrow – Flightpath T2/3 and Hilton T4/5

It is valid for bookings of 5+ days, for parking which begins between 1st and 31st August.  It only applies to refundable rates.

You need to use promo code AUGFLY5A but this will be added automatically if you book via this link.

We wrote an article on the NCP at Hilton T4/5 here.  This car park is particularly good for Terminal 5 because the hotel is nearby and you get a free ticket for the Hotel Hoppa bus.  It is also relatively cheap because it is off-airport.

How to get FREE car rental status and other benefits via UK credit cards

How to get FREE car rental status and other benefits via UK credit cards (April 2025)

If you hire a car in the UK, you can get special benefits (discounts, upgrades, free additional drivers etc) if you have elite status with a car rental programme. You can get elite status for free via certain American Express cards.

The Platinum Card and American Express Business Platinum

The Platinum Card from American Express and American Express Business Platinum come with two free car hire status cards. Your supplementary Platinum cardholder can also receive status in their own right.

From Avis, you receive President’s Club status in Avis Preferred. This gets you up to 25% off standard rates, a free additional driver and a guaranteed one class upgrade. For weekend rentals you will receive a two class upgrade, subject to availability.

From Hertz, you receive ‘Five Star’ status in Hertz Gold Plus Rewards. This gets you up to 15% off standard rates, a free additional driver and a one class upgrade, subject to availability.

Hertz also offers Platinum cardholders a 4 hour grace period on rentals. Your final day is treated as 28 hours, so a 1pm pick up with a 5pm return the following day is only charged as one day, not two days. We wrote about the Hertz / Platinum 4 hour grace period here.

The Platinum Card also comes with full car hire insurance with no obligation to pay for the rental via American Express. You can refuse any attempts to sell you additional insurance at pick up. This benefit has substantial value if you rent on a regular basis.

You can find more details on the two Platinum cards, and apply, in our full reviews linked below. You can apply here for the personal card and here for the business card.

There are two car rental benefits:

  • TM says:

OT- anyone have an idea when we might see £200 off £600 via Amex Travel again?

  • Anna says:

OT – CEDR claim for compo delay from BA. A day before the deadline to respond BA has posted that they were actually mistaken in denying us the compo (3 times, hmm) and want our bank details so they can give us our £1200 euros. It doesn’t say who to contact though, any advice? Clearly pays to be persistent though and thanks to HFP community for pointing the way!

    • BJ says:

Lol, good result, and a lesson to us all, well done 🙂

      • Shoestring says:

good result and typical timing with CEDR/ MCOL

use your case reference/s to give your bank details

        • Anna says:

Hi Harry – do you mean send the details via BAEC contact form? I can’t do it via CEDR now as when I checked, BA actually responded on the 29th, but CEDR only emailed me today stating that they have closed the case!

          • Shoestring says:

I’ve never done CEDR but as it’s BA who will be paying you, you can henceforth ignore CEDR, I thought you could just contact BA through your initial BA Complaint reference/s with concise case details and request payment to xyz bank a/c

          • Anna says:

I’ve done that now, see if it gets any response!

    • Optimus Prime says:

You may want to have it paid into an EUR account and keep them for a while. Might be worth a lot more than £1200 in a few months…

      • Anna says:

It’s already worth £12 more than when I submitted the initial claim!

  • Claire Linford says:

OT… Heathrow geography: We can get dropped off at either T2, T3 or T5, but staying overnight at HI Express T4 (the one with the walkway). Understand there’s a free train/transport between, but just wondering which terminal I’d be best to get our transfer to drop us off at, for the easiest transfer to T4? Monday evening, if that makes a difference. Then flying from T3 the following morning, so any advice on the best way to get back there appreciated. Family of 4. Thanks!

    • Roberto says:

I normally do t5 to t4 on the free red london transport busses. Either the 490 or 482 and they come pretty frequently every 10 mins or so.

Drops you at T4 and you have to enter the terminal and go up in the lift then walk over bridge(s) into the HIEX.

Its the cheapest option (free) and very simple taking 20/30 mins max.

    • Rich says:

There’s not much in it. Bus from T5 takes 20 min, every 10 min. Train from T2/3 takes 5 min every 15. Train probably easier with bags but has a longer walk.

Since your flying from T3, I would get dropped off there, so it’s easier to retrace your steps in the morning!

  • Paul says:

Stayed at The Langley at the weekend and paid with my SPG amex. Am I right in thinking it should get 6 points per a £1?

    • Rob says:

      Yes.

Has it settled down yet or still chaotic in the restaurant?

      • Paul says:

I got there on Friday evening and the earliest they could fit be in the restaurant was at 21:45. They came to the bar at 9 and said that we could come early. Went to the restaurant and it was empty inside and a few tables outside. They said the chef can’t cope with lots of tables. So doesn’t seem like it.

I didn’t bother going for breakfast as I’m only gold, and I wouldn’t pay £28 for breakfast.

Great hotel and already made several reservations for next year, now there’s availability to July.

        • Shoestring says:

I worked in the kitchen of a 5* restaurant when I was 16* – the chef never seemed under particular pressure as there was a big raft of more junior chefs doing most of the work (sous chef, chefs de partie, commis chefs). So don’t leap to blame the big guy here – he has probably not been allowed to recruit an appropriate number of people for the work involved, and being a perfectionist – they all are – is refusing to put his name to more than a certain number of tables at any one time.

          *pot wash – great job

        • Anna says:

Thanks for the heads up, I’ve just booked for my 50th birthday weekend next May! Can’t believe it’s still 35,000 points per night.

  • N says:

    LateRooms has ceases trading

    • Rob says:

Thanks. They have been around for ever, real internet pioneer.

    • EwanG says:

Superbreak too (part of same group).

The big booking sites have massive power – I wonder who will be next…

    • the_real_a says:

I remember making my first booking in around 2005/06 – back then there was a definite price advantage.

  • Anna says:

Do they not have to give 14 days’ notice?

    • Shoestring says:

it’s fairly old news – dates from 12th July – so I guess the 14 days’ notice has been given along the line

    • AJA says:

That’s what I was wondering. Unless notice was given a couple of days ago and it’s only now being reported?

  • BrotherBear says:

Can anyone confirm that for a new Avios RFS booking that shows the £1 + Avios cost option, the cancellation fee will only be £1 regardless of what combination of Avios and cash is chosen?

If the above isn’t the case, I assume if choosing the £1 + Avios option when booking, the cancellation fee in that instance would be capped at £1?

When booking via the app, and clicking the link to show cancellation service fee, it shows cancellation / Avios redeposit as £35 which goes against the above points.

    Thanks in advance.

    • Rob says:

I have seen, and wrote about, an example where it was capped at £1 where the person paid more. Only 1 example so far.

  • Shoestring says:

fwiw Simon Calder: [I talked to the union’s general secretary, Brian Strutton. He said the two sides will be talking at the conciliation service, Acas, for the rest of the week.
While it is possible the negotiations break down and a strike is immediately called, I sense Balpa is very keen to settle]

    • jimA says:

Lets hope Cruz doesn’t have the same sense -or he will play hardball
