NCP has launched a limited-time airport parking sale.

NCP is offering a 5% discount until Friday when you book any of the following airport car parks:

  • Birmingham Car Park 1 and Car Park 2 & 3
  • Norwich Short Stay and Long Stay

NCP airport parking discount code

  • Edinburgh Scotpark
  • Glasgow Short Stay Car Park 2 and Long Stay
  • Heathrow – Flightpath T2/3 and Hilton T4/5

It is valid for bookings of 5+ days, for parking which begins between 1st and 31st August.  It only applies to refundable rates.

You need to use promo code AUGFLY5A but this will be added automatically if you book via this link.

We wrote an article on the NCP at Hilton T4/5 here.  This car park is particularly good for Terminal 5 because the hotel is nearby and you get a free ticket for the Hotel Hoppa bus.  It is also relatively cheap because it is off-airport.

How to get FREE car rental status and other benefits via UK credit cards

How to get FREE car rental status and other benefits via UK credit cards (April 2025)

If you hire a car in the UK, you can get special benefits (discounts, upgrades, free additional drivers etc) if you have elite status with a car rental programme. You can get elite status for free via certain American Express cards.

The Platinum Card and American Express Business Platinum

The Platinum Card from American Express and American Express Business Platinum come with two free car hire status cards. Your supplementary Platinum cardholder can also receive status in their own right.

From Avis, you receive President’s Club status in Avis Preferred. This gets you up to 25% off standard rates, a free additional driver and a guaranteed one class upgrade. For weekend rentals you will receive a two class upgrade, subject to availability.

From Hertz, you receive ‘Five Star’ status in Hertz Gold Plus Rewards. This gets you up to 15% off standard rates, a free additional driver and a one class upgrade, subject to availability.

Hertz also offers Platinum cardholders a 4 hour grace period on rentals. Your final day is treated as 28 hours, so a 1pm pick up with a 5pm return the following day is only charged as one day, not two days. We wrote about the Hertz / Platinum 4 hour grace period here.

The Platinum Card also comes with full car hire insurance with no obligation to pay for the rental via American Express. You can refuse any attempts to sell you additional insurance at pick up. This benefit has substantial value if you rent on a regular basis.

You can find more details on the two Platinum cards, and apply, in our full reviews linked below. You can apply here for the personal card and here for the business card.

American Express Preferred Rewards Gold is an excellent card in its own right. You receive 20,000 Membership Rewards points for signing up (convert to 20,000 Avios amongst other things), four airport lounge passes and £120 of Deliveroo credit. Even better, your first year is free.

There are two car rental benefits:

  • you receive Preferred Plus status in Avis Preferred
  • you receive a special package with Hertz – 10% off best available rates at participating locations, a one class upgrade for rentals of 5 days or more, subject to availability, and no additional driver fees

Do I get a bonus for adding a supp to an amex green?

  • Craig says:

OT: Is there a phone number for Amex Travel? Can’t seem to find it.

    • pauldb says:

You should be able to call the number on the back of your card. Travel booking as well as card services.

OT. Qatar avios posting to BAEC – any idea where I can find out how many avios I should get for a recent flight I took from Stockholm to Singapore in business? Thanks

  • sk123 says:

OT: I mentioned some time back that I have Amex Platinum but on signing up to the BA Amex (not premium) I only got the 1,000 welcome bonus and not the 5,000 sign up bonus on hitting the spend. I chatted today and the lady said I am not eligible as I have a personal Amex – the Platinum one. I said I have never held the BA card before so despite the platinum, I should get the 5k bonus. Am I understanding this right? Is it because I also have Nectar Amex? Anyway, I didn’t get anywhere with her. Please advise re my options. Before I try another chat representative could someone refer e to the exact terms from the T&Cs?

    • sk123 says:

I have just checked Rob’s old article and I should have signed up to the premium card! Now I can’t even get a bonus for that unless I cancel all and wait for 24 months! Really messed up there…

  • a270 says:

I often read here that people sign up to the American Express Green card. What’s the benefit of that as opposed to others or is it just to get the referral bonus?

    • Rob says:

From Green you can upgrade to Platinum via the official upgrade link (although it is not guaranteed to work as you were not emailed it directly, which is why we don’t plug it) and get 20,000 points as an upgrade bonus.

Handy if you can’t apply for Plat directly and get a bonus.

    Europcar £1 one way.
Do they still do it? Can’t find link

    • Rob says:

Site was taken down as it was malfunctioning. Not sure if it will ever return or if this is an excuse to close it.

Shame because we got paid 6p for each one and it was really mounting up 🙂

  • Russ says:

OT, anyone know which’s the better lounge for Swiss at LHR? Can’t remember the last time I went in one. Thanks.

    • Rob says:

Only option in A is LH/SWISS. If you’re prepared to do the 15 minute walk to B satellite, United Club is MASSIVELY better, in fact one of the finest in Heathrow. You need to factor in 15 mins to get there and 15 mins to get back though.

No other option in A satellite unless you have a Priority Pass for Plaza Premium.

      • Russ says:

Thanks Rob. Bit of exercise will do me good 🙂

      • Rich says:

        15 minutes is very comfortable.

Walking at a ‘determined’ but not exactly brisk pace, I think I was there in half that time. Slightly longer on the return as there’s no travelators

  • BJ says:

OT: Just had an email from AerCluv about a buy avios promotion. What is interesting is that the maximum bonus is 45%as opposed to the usual 50%, when buying 100000+. A sign of things to come perhaps.
