Club Eurostar makes it harder to qualify for top tier Carte Blanche status

Club Eurostar is announcing a change to its top-tier Carte Blanche status today.

From 23rd October, you will need to earn 2,400 points or make 32 return journeys in a membership year to qualify or requalify for Carte Blanche.

For comparison, the current figure is 1,800 points or 24 return journeys.  This represents a 33% increase in the travel or spend required to reach Carte Blanche status.

Club Eurostar increases Carte Blanche requirements

This change is seen as a way of reducing waiting time at the fast-track ticket gates and reducing overcrowding in the Business Premier lounges.  There will be no changes to tier benefits and no change to the qualification requirements for mid-tier Avantage status.

Whilst frustrating for members, you need to remember that as a revenue based programme (1 point per £1 spent) Club Eurostar needs to reset its qualification tiers on a regular basis to keep up with ticket price inflation.  I admit that this increase is substantially steeper than RPI, however.

I am guessing that this kicks in from your next full membership year although it is not clear at the moment.  You can find out more about how Club Eurostar works in this lengthy article we ran last week.

How to get Club Eurostar points and lounge access from UK credit cards

How to get Club Eurostar points and lounge access from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Club Eurostar does not have a UK credit card.  However, you can earn Club Eurostar points by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards

Cards earning Membership Rewards points include:

Membership Rewards points convert at 15:1 into Club Eurostar points.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, so you will get the equivalent of 1 Club Eurostar point for every £15 you spend.

American Express Platinum comes with a great Eurostar benefit – Eurostar lounge access!

You can enter any Eurostar lounge, irrespective of your ticket type, simply by showing The Platinum Card at the desk.  No guests are allowed but you can get entry for your partner by issuing them with a free supplementary Amex Platinum card on your account.

Whats the cheapest way currently to buy a smallish number of avios (like 10k ish) with cash?

  • Graham Walsh says:

Typical, booked outbound flights yesterday. Will be ok for return flights in a few days.

OT – Anyone flown with Iceland Air? Looking at wheretocredit and I could deposit miles into Finnair. Is there a way to move them over to my Avios/Aer Lingus account and to BA?

    • Shoestring says:

      no

    • guesswho2000 says:

Deposit to AY and move them over to IHG, I think is an option. I’d personally credit them to AS, but depends whether that’s of any use to you.

  • Shoestring says:

    I am a Great Uncle.

Better than being a Grandpa, I guess.

    Celebrations. I suppose.

    • Karen Brown says:

There is worse @Shoestring. Just see how being a “Great Aunt” sounds.

      • Shoestring says:

my nephew’s wife had their kid on the same day (yesterday) as some other cousin had hers, so my wife is all over it, them being her side of the family.

not only Great Uncle but also something like Great Cousin twice removed

        • The Great Shoestring says:

I shall now be known as The Great Shoestring, for one evening only

  • Roy says:

O/T: Atrium Heathrow (at Hatton Cross) seems to be accepting bookings for tonight on its website. Is it finally open?

    • Rob says:

That hotel looks weird, frankly! Might send Rhys out to take a look 🙂

      • Roy says:

(Even) more conveniently located for Hatton Cross tube than the HGI – and pretty attractively priced, at least for now.

BTW was rather taken aback at the rates HGI T2 is now charging. On the (Sunday) night I was looking at the pricing was comparable to the Sofitel. Maybe not really surprising given the unique location, in hindsight.

        • Roy says:

Ok, on reflection, maybe I’m misremembering 🙂

Certainly was more expensive than I was expecting, though.

  • Shoestring says:

I really need to decide yes/ no about joining one of the class action suits against BA because of the data breaches. I qualify.

Anybody decided yes/ no and can help me in my decision?

    • Crafty says:

Did so months ago, I’d frankly be a bit annoyed if people who’d sat on the fence this long providing no data are still allowed in.

      • The Original David says:

Why’s it such a difficult decision? I signed up as soon as they started advertising it, and can now forget about it for as many years as it takes to reach a conclusion. If I get a few hundred quid at some point, that’ll be nice, if not then it hasn’t been a big part of my life and I’ll be over it after about 15 minutes. I don’t understand all this “should I, shouldn’t I” hand-wringing that people are doing.

    • Anna says:

I wasn’t going to as didn’t think I’d been affected, however I have had several emails recently from Amex saying someone has tried to use a cancelled Amex (that’ll teach them to try & defraud a churner!) so I also need to make a decision!

      • meta says:

I signed up recently after mulling over it for a few months. I have just signed the agreement a few weeks ago, but haven’t sent all the details yet. Having talked to solicitor friends, I’m not expecting more than maybe £100, but still better than nothing.

  • Voltron says:

OT – Have 500 Shangri La points from previous offers. Will never stay in one and dont plan on going to the shard to spend on drinks, is there anyway else to earn Shangri La points as noticed you can transfer to avios, but need minimum of 2500? Website states can only.earn via hotel stays.

  • Leigh says:

OT – I cancelled a Hilton reward night booking on Monday but points haven’t been refunded yet. Does anyone know how long it normally takes to get the points back? Thanks

    • Peter K says:

Usually instant. Log out and back in and they are in your account straight away.

      • Leigh says:

        Thanks Peter
Something may have gone wrong with my cancellation. Will give them a call tomorrow.

        • Prune says:

This happened to me about 3 weeks ago. I cancelled a booking and the points never appeared. I gave them a call and they had to raise a complaint.
The points then appeared about a week later.

          • Leigh says:

Thanks for the info. Just called customer service and was told they are having IT issues. A case is opened for them to investigate. Hopefully the points will return soon.

BA showing me no love at all 😳

    • John Benson says:

I got the same message today:
