Two new Marriott Bonvoy signings came to my attention this week, and both are the sort of properties which I thought would interest our readers.
A couple of years after taking over the Viceroy Hotel on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, Marriott has relaunched it as W Abu Dhabi Yas Island. The website is here.
This hotel is famous for being built in the middle of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix circuit, and is highly sought after during the race each year. W is Marriott’s ‘party’ brand and is generally not for those of a nervous disposition!
The other new signing is M By Montcalm Shoreditch Tech City, below.
This is intriguing. If you spend any time around City Road, you will recognise the building which sits on a fork in the road. The hotel opened in 2015 and came as a bit of a surprise, given by Montcalm is best known for its more ‘traditional’ luxury hotels in London.
It is possible that Montcalm has been struggling to reach its target market. In December, M By Montcalm Shoreditch is joining Marriott’s Autograph Collection of luxury independent boutique hotels.
M By Montcalm has already been removed from The Montcalm Club loyalty scheme to avoid any double dipping issues. At present, there is no sign of any other Montcalm hotels joining the Marriott ‘system’.
The official switching date is currently given as ‘December 2019’ as per the Marriott website here.
