British Airways Caribbean flight discounts – Club World business class from £1,399

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

British Airways has added some additional Caribbean discounts to the current sale, for Autumn travel.

All are priced at £1,399 return.  The destinations included are:

  • Antigua
  • Bridgetown / Barbados
  • Grenada
  • Kingston

  • Port of Spain
  • Providenciales
  • St Kitts
  • St Lucia
  • Tobago

You need to travel out between 18th August and 2nd October, returning by 9th October.

Clearly this is hurricane season in some parts of the Caribbean, but the risk varies sharply by island so do your research.   Barbados, for example, has not been hit by a hurricane since 1955.

You should also price up any booking via BA Holidays as well as looking at ‘flight only’, since this could lead to additional savings.  You could try a ‘flight and car’ booking if you were determined to book your accomodation separately.

Booking via BA Holidays brings other benefits too – you can just pay a deposit now (the balance is due seven weeks before departure) and you earn 1 extra Avios per £1 spent.  Your flights also earn Avios and tier points as usual.  The only downside is that your flights will not earn points in the BA On Business small business loyalty scheme.

  • Georges Pharand says:

I just tried booking a one-way Heathrow to Paddington on 21 March using the Network Railcard option. No discount is offered on the Fixed Day Single or Business First. It only offers a discount on the Off-Peak Day Single. It only discounts on Fixed Day fares if you have one of the other types of railcards, such as Senior or 26-30 (I didn’t try all the other ones).

A slightly frustrating thing about their new fare structure is that they no longer seem to offer discounts on Business First weekend fares.

    • ChrisC says:

Certainly didn’t work for Network Card or Annual Gold card – this was on the Hex website not National Rail Enquiries.

So which pass did you use a Rob? Senior Rail card? Lol

      • ChrisC says:

That said £5.50 is a phenomenal price if you can book it in advance

        • hugo says:

it works for full price network tickets but not for advance tickets because network railcards do not work on advance tickets.

          • tony says:

Also note that there’s a £13 minimum fare on network railcards on weekdays.

Worst hotel I’d ever stayed in, found Avios and then hfp since and things improved dramatically…..
Fortunately the hotel was demolished and re-built……

      • Michael says:

I got all of those on my BAPP and a few targeted restaurants in Edinburgh: Castle Terrace, Southside Scran and the Bonnie Badger in Gullane. Unfortunately nothing for Martin Wishart which would have been ideal timing for some gift vouchers about to be purchased.

        • Stu_N says:

Oh, thanks Michael – good spot. I’ll definitely use Castle Terrace one.

  • L Allen says:

Railcards have been available on HEX for years. In the app there’s a long list of cards you can use to get varying levels of discount

  • IslandDweller says:

The network railcard discounts only ever apply (on weekdays) after morning rush hour, which is why I sturdier it’ll only give a discount on the off – peak type tickets.

    • Roy says:

No, it will give a railcard discount on the Anytime tickets. The Anytime Return, discounted from £37 to £24, is my usual ticket.

It’s your responsibility to know when your railcard is valid, and to buy an undiscounted ticket if needed. In my case (Annual Gold Card) it’s not valid for travel before 10am on weekdays.

  • IslandDweller says:

    Predictive….
    Should read “why I suspect”

  • Simon says:

Quick question if I may. Missed out on some Avios flights as it’s a one BA flight a day route and the seats were snapped up at T-355 by another eagle eyed punter.

Is there any logic to the (potential) release of extra seats for booking with Avios?

    TIA

    • Anna says:

No – you’re best off setting up an alert with RFF. Which route is it? Other readers may have experience of tracking the same seats being released.

      • Shoestring says:

is it midnight or 1am at the mo? got to get our Xmas/ NY 2021 return flights tonight

        • Simon says:

Was Santiago Chile to London. Flying back 1/1/21. Was on hold for twenty minutes, then transferred to another agent which lost another ten minutes and the second guy really had no idea. Took another five minutes of checking to confirm the seats had gone. Already booked the outbound so left hanging at the moment!!

          • Genghis says:

Were you online at midnight too?

          • Matt says:

Can you travel back the next day? If so, book the flights online, rather than calling up. If it’s a 241 then you can then phone up at your leisure the next day to get a refund of half the avios. You’ll pay slightly more in fees that way, but only £50 or so each I think.

If you don’t have flexibility for dates, the look for alternative departure points – we had 24 hours in Sao Paulo a couple of years ago on our way back from Santiago because we also missed the booking from Santiago. Sao Paulo seems to have the best availability I think, but you’ve also got Rio and Buenos Aires to check.

        • Simon says:

          Sorry. Midnight.

      • Simon says:

Cheers Anna. Santiago Chile to London. I’m on RFF but as we’ve booked the outbound I’m a little stuck!

        • meta says:

Think alternative routes with a connection as a back up. Either another South American point or US. Then use Avios to get to Chile (though I believe LATAM is no longer an option). You can always cancel if direct route opens up.

        • Jonny says:

If you can’t snag Avios tickets with BA then you can always fly Iberia via Madrid – obvs have to deal with a connection but will likely save you quite a few ££ (and poss Avios too) I think Iberia release their reward seats around 330 days beforehand.

        • Jonny says:

Hi Simon, just checked on Iberia Plus – already available to book direct Santiago to London via Madrid in business class on 1 Jan 2021 for 90,000 Avios + £89 taxes. Which is somewhat cheaper than booking through BA Exec Club

          • meta says:

Unless Simon is using 241 voucher, then that’s another option.

          • Mark says:

It’s worth noting that when I’ve done the maths in the past, valuing avios at 1p each and starting from Heathrow, IB longhaul business redemptions usually come out pretty close to flying BA with a 241 voucher (assigning no value to the voucher beyond the annual fee cost of the BAPP card). It does however mean having a lot more avios to spend, though you can potentially mitigate that by using cash for the short haul leg to Madrid.

If not using a 241 then it’s a bit of a no-brainer. Just don’t forget that to avoid UK APD adding a substantial cost to book the outbound leg to Madrid separately from the onward longhaul redemption, but make sure you have adequate time to collect and recheck luggage / allow for any delays on the leg to Madrid. You can book the return flight as a through connection without any such penalty.

If you want to keep the outbound with BA you can, of course just book the return with Iberia even if you have used a 241 voucher (though you’re then only getting one-way usage out of it of course).

          • Rob says:

Try the LATAM flight to Madrid as well.

          • Mark says:

Potential catch here is that you presumably do still need to have held an Iberia Plus account for 90+ days to transfer in via Combine My Avios?

          • Rob says:

Yes. That’s why everyone should have an activated IB account even if they don’t need it now.

          • Simon says:

Thanks. This may well be the back up. as I’m on a 2-4-1 I was really hoping for the maximum benefit of BA out and back but appreciate you can’t always get what you want!

          • Mark says:

Just remembered as well that IB usually offers reasonable avios and cash options on redemptions if you were to need them. As it’s a peak date, you’re looking at 87,500 avios one-way Santiago to Madrid in business class, plus between 7,500 and 15,000 one-way Madrid to London (depending on travel class for that sector). That will, of course be x2. So, considerably more than the 105,000 avios with the BA 241, but lower taxes and fees.

          • Mark says:

Actually I think it’s 75,000 rather than 87,500 – one band lower than I thought, so all-in for two between 165,000 and 180,000 one-way depending on whether you go for business class on the Madrid to Heathrow sector.

    • Steve-B says:

Given there’s virtually no J availability for the preceding four months and only one flight per day I’d say you chances are v. low. Similar to Caribbean routes.

      • Tom1 says:

        Not necessarily the case.
Just because there aren’t any seats now, doesn’t mean to say they haven’t opened up and been snapped up again. Plenty of people on the ball.

Would be interesting if RFF or seatspy data would reveal how often 1/2 seats open up for each route. Sure Tim could do this.

  • Shoestring says:

datapoint weeks 1-2 January 2020: my daughter’s passport approval took 4 working days after application, 2 working days if you count the start point as the moment they receive the old passport (as they won’t start processing it until that time)

    • Roberto says:

      Thanks for this Harry.
We away currently and back at the weekend. Off to Mumbai on the 18th of next month and I will be changing my passport in between. I also need 4 days for the Indian Visa so your comments bode well for a speedy turnaround.

      • Shoestring says:

guaranteed next day delivery (of the old passport) £6.80 seemed better value than paying for fast track, no need to use that in January

        1 week Fast Track service
Your new passport will be delivered to your home within a week of your appointment. Someone may need to be in to sign for it.
        It costs:
£142 for an adult passport (or £152 for a 50 page frequent traveller passport)
£122 for a child passport (or £132 for a 50 page frequent traveller passport)
