Shangri-La Golden Circle has launched two new promotions which may be worth a look if you have a few of their points tucked away.

Firstly, Shangri-La is offering a 50% bonus when you buy points.   This starts as low as $6.50 for 75 points, including the bonus, up to a maximum of 10,000 points.

Remember that you can redeem Shangri-La Golden Circle points for food and drink vouchers valid in their hotels, even if you are not staying.  This includes the hotel in The Shard in London.

Vouchers are available in chunks of $50, at 500 points per $50.  This offer may be an opportunity to top up your account to the nearest 500 points and then redeem them.

You can even make a tiny profit by buying points and then redeeming them for vouchers!  $91 gets you 1,050 points which you can redeem for a $100 food and beverage voucher.  You’d probably lose out once currency conversion was factored in though.

However, for me it is more interesting.  I have 250 Golden Circle points which are basically orphaned.  I could spend $26 to buy 300 and redeem 500 for a $50 voucher.

Shangri-La is also offering huge reductions on points stays in Asia, with savings of up to 60%.

For example, a suite at Shangri-La’s Boracay Resort and Spa in the Philippines is now 4,800 points instead of the normal 12,000 points.

You can book until 31st July for stays until 31st December 2020.  The European hotels are not included, unfortunately.

Before anyone asks, you cannot transfer into Shangri-La Golden Circle from any major airline or UK credit card programme.  There is no easy way of taking advantage of this deal unless you have a stash of Golden Circle points from an earlier stay.

The Golden Circle website is here if you want to find out more.
