Qatar Airways is currently running a 60% bonus when you buy Qatar Privilege Club Qmiles.

The offer ends on Tuesday 1st September, so time is running out.

We have never seen a deal like this before from Qatar Airways which has not historically sold its miles at a discount.

What is the deal?

The bonus is staggered:

Get a 30% bonus when you buy 1,000 to 10,999 Qmiles

Get a 45% bonus when you buy 11,000 to 30,999 Qmiles

Get a 60% bonus when you buy 31,000+ Qmiles

You can buy up to 250,000 miles, plus the bonus, during this offer.  At the most extreme, you could buy 250,000 miles and receive a bonus of 150,000 miles, for a total of 400,000 miles!  The cost for this would be $7,500, which works out at 1.875 cents (1.46p) per mile.

Did you take advantage of the recent Privilege Club status match?

I know that quite a lot of HfP readers took advantage of the recent Qatar Privilege Club status match.  This allowed anyone who had status with Emirates, Etihad, Turkish Airlines, Singapore Airlines or South African Airways to match that status with Qatar Airways.

Since Qatar Airways is a partner with British Airways in the oneworld alliance, this meant that you could effectively match yourself to British Airways status.

This offer is now closed, but if you took advantage and have credited any flights to Qatar Airways since, this bonus might be an opportunity to top them up.

Qatar Privilege Club Qmiles no longer expire

Qatar Airways announced recently that Qmiles would no longer have a hard expiry date.

Following the Avios model, your Qmiles are now safe as long as you earn or spend 1 mile every 36 months.  The airline stated that:

“As we value the needs of our members, we begin a journey of change. A journey to bring you a Privilege Club designed with your needs in mind, one where your loyalty is aptly rewarded and each well-earned Qmile is more powerful and takes you further than ever before.

“We begin our journey together by extending the life of Qmiles, continuing to progress until we provide you the loyalty programme you have been waiting for. Qmiles will now last longer than ever before. Every time you spend or earn, your Qmiles balance will be valid for a further 36 months.”

Head for Points readers are, not surprisingly, far more likely to credit their oneworld flights to British Airways Executive Club rather than Qatar Privilege Club, irrespective of the merits of both schemes.

If you do have a stash of Qmiles, however, the current 60% ‘buy miles’ bonus is a decent opportunity to top them up and get some use out of them.

    Zero comments. Interesting.

  • Pogonation says:

Wouldn’t it make more sense to buy a ticket and cancel it to take advantage of the QMiles credit for cancelling ticket (10USD per 1000)?
