Excellent IHG deal at the new Hotel Indigo Bath – 30,000 points for a £500 suite

Hotel Indigo opened in Bath this week. This is bigger news than you might think, since the city is very low on branded options in the city centre.

Here is the hotel website with all the details.

The Hilton Bath Spa, recently rebranded as a DoubleTree, had been the best points option. This is probably the ugliest building in Bath, however, and wasn’t a great hotel when I last visited pre-refurbishment.

Marriott now has an option in Bath. The Abbey Hotel has joined Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio of independent hotels which are part of the Bonvoy ‘system’. The Abbey Hotel website is here. Rhys is reviewing the Abbey Hotel this week so keep an eye out for that in a week or so.

For those who know Bath, the Hotel Indigo is in the Georgian building which used to contain Pratt’s Hotel and the Halcyon Hotel, near the railway station. It is only a few minutes walk from the Abbey and the core shopping area.

There are 166 rooms in five different design styles – including the off-beat stone style in the vaults, pictured below! The restaurant, The Elder, is run by West Country restauranteur Mike Robinson who owns the only Michelin-starred London pub, the Harwood Arms in Fulham.

Hotel Indigo Bath opens

It is amazing value for IHG Rewards Club points at the moment. Rooms are regularly priced at over £300 for Spring and Summer 2021, or you can pay just 30,000 points!

(Remember that my target valuation for an IHG Rewards Club redemption is 0.4p per point and you are getting 1p per point here.)

Even better, vault suites, as pictured above, are currently available for 30,000 points. These are selling for over £500 on some nights I found, getting you 1.66p per point.

This could be a mistake – I’m not sure the hotel intends to give away its suites for the next year – so I would lock in a booking now if you are interested.

The Hotel Indigo Bath website is here.

If you want to buy points to book a redemption, IHG is currently offering a 75% ‘buy points’ bonus via this link. You can buy 30,000 points for $264 (£206) which would get you a £500 suite. Even redeeming for standard rooms it represents a big saving next Summer.

Perfect – that’s my wedding anniversary venue sorted for next year 🙂

  • BJ says:

Same happened when Indigo Kensington opened. Took advantage of that and would like to do this too but cannot decide on dates.

  • Ian says:

I am guessing that these are room only rates? Not like IHG give breakfast even to Spire Elite 🙁 Anyone know the cost of breakfast here?

What a shame that the suites and best rooms are underground.

Looking at the latest review the author recommends avoiding these rooms as they are very dark.

  • Andrew says:

I think “selling at” and “priced at” are two different things. I looked at this yesterday when I saw it on Business Traveller and was shocked to see rooms for the coming weeks priced at over £300 when every other hotel room in the country is priced at less than £100 and even top London hotels like the IC Park Lane priced at around £200. So I doubt they are currently “selling” any of these rooms at these prices. Next year of course will be a different story and then perhaps 30,000 for a suite at this hotel is ok value.

Bath is probably busy. When I was at Principal York recently I was told they are running at 95%.

    • FlyingChris says:

London is like oversaturated with high end hotels for business & tourists that aren’t travelling at the moment. Hotels in more premium staycation destinations like Bath, Cotswolds, Devon etc within easy reach of London – I’ve been finding are commanding high rates over peak times like school holidays in particular.

  • Ian says:

Probably if you have some points then 15K + 67.65 per night is cheaper than buying points.

I assume if you cancel the refund is 15,000 points which is cheaper than the buy rate above.

Went for it, a weekend in a suite a year out. Suite looks great but I’m not sold on it given absence of windows. Breakfast we will probably just eat out, better places to eat breakfast than hotels. Parking is £15/day which is also unappealling. It feels 50/50 at the moment, I’ll keep or cancel based on feedback filtering through from readers after their stays.

  • Anuj says:

Don’t assume it is always the case, always read the confirmation before clicking book

  • Ed E says:

Thanks Rob, 2 nights in suites booked for end of July!
It made me take the plunge and cancel a valentines redemption in London that OH is not keen on, even this far out.
