Excellent IHG deal at the new Hotel Indigo Bath – 30,000 points for a £500 suite

Hotel Indigo opened in Bath this week. This is bigger news than you might think, since the city is very low on branded options in the city centre.

Here is the hotel website with all the details.

The Hilton Bath Spa, recently rebranded as a DoubleTree, had been the best points option. This is probably the ugliest building in Bath, however, and wasn’t a great hotel when I last visited pre-refurbishment.

Marriott now has an option in Bath. The Abbey Hotel has joined Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio of independent hotels which are part of the Bonvoy ‘system’. The Abbey Hotel website is here. Rhys is reviewing the Abbey Hotel this week so keep an eye out for that in a week or so.

For those who know Bath, the Hotel Indigo is in the Georgian building which used to contain Pratt’s Hotel and the Halcyon Hotel, near the railway station. It is only a few minutes walk from the Abbey and the core shopping area.

There are 166 rooms in five different design styles – including the off-beat stone style in the vaults, pictured below! The restaurant, The Elder, is run by West Country restauranteur Mike Robinson who owns the only Michelin-starred London pub, the Harwood Arms in Fulham.

Hotel Indigo Bath opens

It is amazing value for IHG Rewards Club points at the moment. Rooms are regularly priced at over £300 for Spring and Summer 2021, or you can pay just 30,000 points!

(Remember that my target valuation for an IHG Rewards Club redemption is 0.4p per point and you are getting 1p per point here.)

Even better, vault suites, as pictured above, are currently available for 30,000 points. These are selling for over £500 on some nights I found, getting you 1.66p per point.

This could be a mistake – I’m not sure the hotel intends to give away its suites for the next year – so I would lock in a booking now if you are interested.

The Hotel Indigo Bath website is here.

If you want to buy points to book a redemption, IHG is currently offering a 75% ‘buy points’ bonus via this link. You can buy 30,000 points for $264 (£206) which would get you a £500 suite. Even redeeming for standard rooms it represents a big saving next Summer.

    All gone!

  • Nick says:

Is there any easy way to scan availability? I tend to use the app and just have to keep going in and out to look at different dates- feels there must be an easier way!

    • Rob says:

With 365 days bookable and 50,000 core HFP readers we may have cleared out the suites already.

      • Nick says:

I got that impression! All the rooms look good and great value though.

Interestingly for a family booking, even midweek it doesn’t offer up the suites when they’re available, despite having a sofa bed in them- only offers a 2 x double bed room. Reckon I could book a suite and just being the kids anyway. Probably some forgiveness given I’ll be spire elite?

        • Anna says:

I find IHG to be the most flexible brand for accommodating children, even if the room specifies a maximum of 2 they will usually happily allow kids to share, or IME put you in a bigger room!

      • Chris Heyes says:

Sounds like HFP readers Gone mad why would anyone book a Suite because its cheap
The point being book a hotel (suite) because it fits in with your plans
(HFP reviews excepted) but surly not fit your plans round a booking !

        • Andrew says:

Especially as points bookings can be made totally speculatively, and if you’ve got a few hundred thousand points sitting in your IHG account, might as well throw them into a few booking and cancel the ones you don’t need nearer the time. It’s not like Avios bookings that require a substantial cash outlay and a phone call to get back – points back into your account in seconds after pressing cancel.

        • Rob says:

True if it was Doncaster we’re talking about, but as Bath is perfect staycation territory and most readers aren’t flying anywhere at the moment, it makes sense.

        • Harry T says:

@ Chris because it’s easier to get to Bath than go abroad at the moment, and I’ve got six figures worth of IHG points. This is a free hotel room that can be cancelled up to the day before if plans change.

  • dezbez says:

Just booked 2 nights (midweek) in the Vault Room during this Oct half term – only 27.5k per night…

  • meta says:

Booked Superior Premium King for next June. At least it has windows!

There are some real bargains at the moment on IHG points as some hotels are putting non-standard rooms on points. A few weeks ago booked a junior suite at Kimpton Vividora in Barcelona for next May bank holiday for 32.5k points (cash price 525 euros at the time!).

    • Anna says:

I’ve booked a King vault room for next May – we’re both terrible sleepers so lack of daylight at that time of year is a plus for us!

    • Mr. AC says:

I looked at that hotel and couldn’t find a single day where the suite was available on points. How did you find that it was available? Did you just notice it randomly??

  • Anna says:

15k points plus £67 also looks like a good deal, especially if the King Vault rooms stay at over £400 per night!

    • John says:

Remember with IHG you are just buying the extra points

      • Anna says:

Yes – I just meant if didn’t have, or didn’t want to spend the full amount of points, this is still a very good deal.

  • Emad says:

Showing available Sperior premium rooms but the confirmation email as well as the (coming stays details) is Standard rooms.

  • Harry T says:

In a similar vein, Abbey Road, the new Bonvoy property in Bath, is 25,000 points for New Year’s Eve when cash rates are about £250 for the redemption level room. Could work in combination with booking the Indigo for the rest of the weekend (Indigo not available on NYE).

    • Rhys says:

      I’m here right now 🙂

      • Harry T says:

How is it?! Do they give free breakfast, upgrades and 4pm checkout to Platinum and above?

        • Rhys says:

I wouldn’t know, I’m not Platinum! Otherwise very nice refurbishment. Menu feels out of step with the rest of the hotel, though

          • Martin Hawkins says:

hi Rhys, welcome to Bath, I am a HFP reader living here, enjoy your visit to our great city, even in the rain!

        • TGLoyalty says:

yes to free breakfast, yes to upgrade and yes to 4pm checkout.

I feel like the public spaces had a full refurb (very nice too) but the rooms have had a lick of paint, some new furniture and perhaps some recent bathroom renovations but not fully and deffo not all of them.

I asked to move as the first bathroom was mouldy and clearly not been cleaned properly, room was good. Second Room was better overall with more minor issues (shower had gunk in corners, sink blocked with hair and god knows what else and filthy dust covered extractor fan) but “deep” cleaning is being used too frequently for what’s a quick clean down. Duvet cover was also too small for the duvet.

I really think the Indigo would be better unless the property pulls their finger out.

          • Harry T says:

Thanks, when did you visit? What upgrade did they give you?

Looks like the Indigo could be better quality hard product but the elite benefits are more promising at the Abbey Road.

          • TGLoyalty says:

The weekend small shop finished. From superior print to Gallery

So many spots for breakfast nearby we ended up doing brunch instead Frampton’s (half price ofcourse 🙂 ) was good just down the road. My rate had breakfast anyway so little welcome gift, upgrade, 1000 points and 4pm checkout were the elite benefits and perhaps the welcome chocolates. Did get the second room issues fixed quickly and a free bottle of Prosecco for my trouble was nice.

The bar was pretty good and the bar staff will make you any classics / twists if you are looking for something different.

Indigo is right round the corner near the car park

  • Harry T says:

Thanks to the Head for Points for another great IHG scoop. In conjunction with the recent screw ups with dynamic pricing allowing us to book ICs for hilariously low points, it’s been a good year for IHG opportunities.
