Good news: five Greek islands removed from quarantine list, no countries added

The Government announced this afternoon that anyone returning to England from Lesvos, Tinos, Serifos, Santorini and Zakynthos will NOT need to quarantine for 14 days.

The quarantine requirement will be removed from 4am on Saturday morning.

Crete and Mykonos are NOT removed from the quarantine list. You will still need to self isolate for 14 days if you return from either of these islands.

No new countries have been added to the quarantine list this week.

These five islands will presumably soon be removed from the list of countries exempt from the Foreign Office ‘do not travel’ list (click here). This is usually the trigger for being to abandon your holiday plans and make a successful travel insurance claim.

The official ‘travel corridor’ list is on this page of the Government website.

Added to the FCO exemption list rather than removed from?

  • Heathrow Flyer says:

What’s Greece like in the Autumn? Are the islands just dead and the weather wet and mild? Or is it worth a visit?

    Thinking of somewhere for half-term.

    • Jody says:

We did a Greek islands cruise last November. Was lovely weather in Santorini when we stopped there, and t shirt weather everywhere.

    • Richard M says:

Most of them pretty-much shut down on 31 Oct.

    • Leo says:

Yes it will be very quiet – after a quiet season they will be shutting up if not closed already.

    • Anna says:

You’re taking a risk with the weather. I’ve been to the Greek islands twice in October – once it was glorious all week and the other time it was thunder storms for 4 days out of 7!

    • Coucou says:

      Dead, especially this year.

  • Richard M says:

Italy is effectively closed now because you require a Covid test on the way in.

It just leaves Greece, Sweden and (only if you live in the south of England) Germany

  • Char Char says:

Im sure 2 of them don’t even have a proper airport, so unlikely popular with tourists.

The restrictions are based on rubbish data and probably most of the tourists that contributed to the numbers rather than locals.

    • Coucou says:

Obviously you don’t know and/or you haven’t been to those islands. They are popular.

  • 8vio says:

At VIE airport the test costs 120 EUR. No cash payments are allowed though.

  • 8vio says:

I think Italy will be removed next Thursday or at the latest on Oct 22nd, just not to let people go there for half term holidays. No matter what nubers will show.

  • James Vickers says:

Is there a reason why there hasn’t been a conversation about Gibraltar? We went back in August and thought would be a couple of weeks or so before it required quarantine especially being next to Spain but nothing yet..

    • Anna says:

There don’t seem to be quarantine requirements returning from any of the BOTs that I’ve seen (though it doesn’t always work the other way). Not sure if they have some sort of hold over the government or they’ve just kept their infection rates really low.
