Some airline route news:

Jet2 opens new base at Bristol Airport

Jet2 is hoping for a big post-Covid summer season next year. It will station three aircraft at Bristol Airport in order to serve 33 European destinations.

Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece and Turkey will all see direct flights from Bristol.

Four routes will be completely new to Bristol Airport: Almeria, Kalamata, Lesvos and Izmir.

Loganair returns to Teesside

After a three year absence, Loganair is relaunching at Teesside International with routes to five destinations.

It will use an Embraer 145 aircraft to operate Aberdeen and Belfast City from 1st February, whilst Dublin, Jersey and Newquay are set to launch over the summer.

Loganair will go head to head with domestic competitor Eastern Airways, which also plans to operate four of the five new routes. Only Jersey is currently unserved since Flybe pulled out last year.

Manchester gets Iberia Express flights

Following on from our coverage of the three new Avios redemption opportunities from Newcastle over the Christmas holidays with Iberia Express, Manchester has also received a boost.

Iberia Express will run 16 flights to Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Madrid from the 26th December until 3rd January.

  • Adam says:

We went away with friends earlier in the year…we booked with BA holidays and they booked with Jet2. Even as a Gold card holder, the Jet2 experience my friends had was at least comparable if not better in some areas (free private transfers and two free drinks on board). Perhaps worth a comparison article?

    • Rob says:

Never heard a bad word about Jet2.

      • Craig says:

        We try!

      • Louise K says:

        Yes, they are very good.

Wish they would get rid of the Jess Glynn jingle. Drives me mad!

They have been excellent with refunds over this tricky time.

      • Colin MacKinnon says:

        OK, hers one from Fuerteventura.
Booked Jet2 to FUE a week last Monday for the Wednesday. They cancelled on the Tuesday by text, citing “government restrictions”.
Of course, they didn’t apply in Scotland, nor – apparently – to their Glasgow to Tenerife flights!
Ryanair brought us here six days later. But Jet2 cost us our first nights fee and an AirBnB 100 dollar coupon.
        Not impressed.

      • The Savage Squirrel says:

Jet2 are proof that it’s possible to run a no-frills airline with a perfectly acceptable experience and without giving the Ryanair 2-finger salute to every customer the second any customer service issue arises.

    • Harry T says:

Jet2 are great. Even folks at work have been saying to me that Jet2 refunded them promptly during covid disruption, and they will book with them again. They refunded me within days of cancelling a flight.

      • Adam says:

After my friends experience we booked a cheeky week in the Canaries with Jet2. It was cancelled due to lockdown. Got through to them in about 30 seconds. Super friendly and a full cash refund.

        • Amber Lynn says:

What was cheeky about it? Completely wrong use of an adjective.

          • Chrisasaurus says:

It’s not, it’s a turn of phrase – ‘nipped in for a cheeky pint before the train left’

          • The Original David says:

Maybe they were planning to go to a nudist beach everyday and eat a lot of beef cheek? Completely wrong of you to jump to conclusions without knowing any of the facts…

  • Bs says:

What was your scoop of the year?

  • TeesTraveller says:

Eastern actually operate the summer charter on MME-JER (but you can’t book it as a flight only, unlike when FlyBe operated the charter).

Great things happening at Teesside right now with TUI returning in 2022.

    • Harry T says:

As an ex resident of Teesside who still frequently works at James Cook, it’s really satisfying to see investment in the local airport. Not too far to drive from Newcastle too, if the price is right!

      • ChrisC says:

If only the public transport to/from it were better!

      • xcalx says:

I worked there whilst still a building site in the winter of 1978/9 remember it for the strikes and the bitter cold weather.

    • Darren says:

Do they still charge for using the airport?

      • The real John says:

All airports charge, but some airports hide their charges in the ticket price.

        • Charlieface says:

I wouldn’t call it hiding but showing the total price upfront, rather than springing an extra £10 or £15 on you to get onto the plane

  • Chris Heyes says:

Congrats, Rob and Team. shame about dinner

  • marcw says:

Congrats Rob, Rhys and rest of the HfP team.

  • Phil says:

Good luck HFP team. You all thoroughly deserve it!

  • Tony says:

    Congratulations to all.

  • Frankie says:

Congratulations HFP team! Reading HFP in bed before I get up is probably the only thing in life that didn’t change this year. You’ve been with us throughout 2020 and been a great source of accurate and reliable advice and guidance. Thanks
