Heathrow staff announce December strike dates

Heathrow Airport staff members, who are members of the Unite union, will be striking for four days in December.

The strike is protest against pay cuts which have been imposed on 4,000 staff who did not lose their jobs in the recent redundancy process. The average pay cut is reported to be 20%.

Heathrow strike dates

The strike dates are:

  • 1st December
  • 14th December
  • 17th December
  • 18th December

The strike will run for the full 24 hour period on each day, and so is likely to cause disruption on the day on either side.

It isn’t clear, given the number of staff employed versus the number of passengers due to use the airport, how badly services will be impacted. Firefighters will be amongst those striking, however, so nothing will be arriving or departing if they cannot be replaced.

More information will, no doubt, emerge over the next couple of weeks.

    I am booked on the 18th but to Germany but I am keen not to go. BA stubbornly keeping flights operational 🙂 so this strike is perfect though in truth the airport will cave long before we get there. A voucher beacons!!

    Plenty of unemployed people who lost their jobs due to pandemic who will be more than happy for work.
    Replace them all .

    While I have every sympathy for the staff affected by this I do wonder what good will be achieved by striking. It is clear that traffic is down so they really don’t want to annoy the few that are indeed travelling.

    So many have lost their jobs through this pandemic and many people, like myself, are in that ‘zone’ where we receive no Gov help. I’m £19 under the amount needed to get some Gov money according to my accountant and we’ve earned 0% this year as our non for profit business relies on the travel. I feel that anyone who has a job should be so grateful at the moment when so many would gladly fill their shoes.

    In my humble opinion, all Heathrow staff have to be let go and re-assessed for customer service orientation, helpfulness and friendliness.

    They are not there ‘to enforce’ they are there to provide services.

      This is because dynamics changes very fast: put 5 people in a queue and appoint 1 to be “a security guard” — and you are in the middle of mini-Stanford experiment — in a matter of minutes.
