British Airways to launch a partnership with Brazilian airline GOL?

According to Brazilian newspaper Globo, British Airways and GOL have agreed a frequent flyer partnership.

The article states that it is only for frequent flyer redemption and not earning. This seems highly unlikely, so I suspect that what we will actually see is a full codeshare combined with frequent flyer earn and burn benefits.

This is a sensible move for British Airways. Since LATAM left the oneworld alliance earlier this year, British Airways lost some connectivity options in South America.

GOL has a 40% share of the domestic market in Brazil. It has hubs in both Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro which would allow connections to and from British Airways services.

    Surely it’s 747s not 747’s unless we are American..? ;- )

    • jkay86 says:

Glad I’m not the only one to have thought of that!

    • Rhys says:

747’s isn’t American, it’s just wrong! Unfortunately Rob didn’t study literature at uni like some of us….

  • Francis says:

Doesn’t seem to apply to supplementary card holders.

  • Rob Collins says:

Had the ‘Spend £500 get 500 Avios’ x 2 offer on my BA Amex. It sounds from the wording that it may be single spend only, which would be unfortunate as I can’t see that I’ll be spending £500 on a single transaction any time soon.

    • mr_jetlag says:

      Ambiguous…

“500 flat Avios will be rewarded upon spend of £500 per UK Card up to 2 times for a maximum of 1000 Avios.
Avios will only be rewarded if the spend threshold of £500 (Great British Pounds (GBP)) is met.”

As read it doesn’t require single transaction of £500 (and indeed, this has never been the case since eg airline spend is charged per passenger so 4×125 triggers this offer)

  • Lee says:

Rob, Spend £500, receive 500 Avios is closing at 31/01/2021 on my card. Don’t know if this was anything to do with my card has both offer on it.

  • PeterK says:

My offer is ‘Get 500 Avios when you spend £500 anywhere, up to 2 times until 31 January 2021. Offer only available to the first 75,000’
According to the T&Cs ‘500 flat Avios will be rewarded upon spend of £500 per UK Card up to 2 times for a maximum of 1000 Avios’ so I interpret this as not necessarily having to be £500 spend in a single transaction?

  • LEWIS says:

Is there no IHG advent Callander promo this year?

  • JP says:

Can confirm it is cumulative – made two payments that took me over the £100 and got the email yesterday

  • Ian says:

I’ve got the spend £100 get 1,500 bonus Avios on my card and it does appear to be cumulative spend up to 31 December. Spend in foreign currency counts as long as the bill is “settled” – i.e. payment taken from your account – in Sterling, subject to the usual foreign exchange fee of course.
