By now, you may have seen that we are running a five day prize giveaway with Jones Bootmaker. Every day until Sunday, a pair of shoes worth at least £89 will be up for grabs.

Friday’s prize is ….

Today we’re offering the chance to win a pair of ‘Elton’ double monk suede shoes. The monk shoe is certainly a classic, but the black suede and double buckle of the ‘Elton’ gives the shoe a more contemporary twist.

According to Jones Bootmaker, ‘monk’ shoes garnered their name from alpine monks who introduced buckled shoes in monasteries throughout Europe in the 15th Century.

These shoes are worth £89 and feature in Jones Bootmaker’s Multi-Buy offer. The Multi-Buy promotion offers two pairs of selected shoes for £150.

    Are those men’s shoes?!

    • mark2 says:

In a shoe Shop (Small) this week I commented to the manager that it was difficult to tell the difference between men’s and women’s shoes. She agreed with me.

    • LB says:

I thought the only men with buckles on their shoes are pirates and town criers!

  • Tom says:

    I’m slightly apprehensive about googling ‘double-monk’ 😮

  • Jack says:

I see why they would want to give them away!

  • MadeUpName says:

Wow – those are awful! Might be a few less entries today. Or maybe I’m just too old for them.

    • Thywillbedone says:

Perhaps that’s why one of the possible answers to the competition question is ’19th century circus members’…

    • AJA says:

I agree, maybe the look better in the flesh, so to speak (assuming its genuine suede). And apologies but maybe because I’m feeling old and am turning into a grumpy pedantic old git but using less and few together is unnecessary tautology:-)

    • ChrisD says:

I was thinking that I was too young for them, and I’m in my 40s!

  • Tony says:

I’ve never seen the attraction to this type of shoe. I worked with a director that wore nothing but them, in different colours/materials. I saved my double entry based on yesterday’s teaser description and I’m not even going to entry today… Let’s hope tomorrow brings something more stylish.

  • ChrisW says:

Anyone entering today has a good chance of winning 😂😂😂

  • Mike says:

double Monk shoe – not for me. I wouldn’t give them to the dog to play with – no wonder they are giving them away !!

  • jamie says:

Maybe it’s an original 15th Century pair?
