Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Up to 2,000 free Nectar points (1,250 Avios) just for opening the app

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

An odd Nectar promotion appeared on Wednesday morning in the Nectar app.

When you open it, you may (or may not, most people have it but not all) see this:

Click on it. You get a very short marketing message about the value of registering for weekly Nectar bonus points offers via the app.

Once you’ve done that, you will receive a mystery bonus. I got 400 points but readers have reported bonuses as high as 2,000 Nectar points (1,250 Avios). My wife only got 250, so it varies substantially.

The points post immediately.

Note that if you do not currently have the latest version of the Nectar app on your device, you will be prompted to upgrade before you see your offer.

    1480 points here!

  • Youngtraveller says:

I checked the app but got nothing then updated the app on play store and checked again and got 200 points. So make sure you’ve updated the app.

    • Mark Peterborough says:

Thank you very much, nothing for me initially then I updated the app at the play store and the offer was there.

      1000 Nectar points for me.

    • Sam G says:

Cheers – updated and got 250 pts! But I’ve been saving and redeeming the offers so not unexpected that it’s lower

      • Hotelier says:

Been saving and redeeming in my card and got 1000 points. Partner doesn’t use it pretty much and got 400 points so I think it could actually work the other way around and reward loyalty or just be complete random

  • Eff says:

Just checked and I got 250 points

  • Steve says:

400 points for me. I had to update the app first.

  • Oh! Matron! says:

Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick 🙂

    Thanks for the heads up:-)

  • Sam says:

I have the updated app but nothing for me – I wonder if you get more points if you don’t often save offers? I save and use a lot of them which could be why I have no bonus!

  • Rich says:

    210 for me.

I fear it may have backfired a little in my case.

I didn’t note what time period it’s looking back over, but my takeaway is:

“All those juicy points we’ve offered over the past X weeks – and which haven’t changed your spending pattern because you weren’t setting out to achieve them – were only worth a quid. Hardly worth the bother, especially if it causes you to spend an extra quid you wouldn’t have.”

  • dave says:

    1000 for me!
