Sunday is your last day to take part in the current offer that British Airways is running when you buy Avios.

You’ll get a bonus of up to 50%, depending on the number of Avios you purchase. This means you can top up your account in preparation for any redemptions you may be planning for that future trip away that we’ve all been waiting for – when the time is right of course.

The link to buy is here.

Remember that Avios reward availability has now improved, with British Airways guaranteeing fourteen Avios seats on every single long-haul flight (12 on short-haul), four of which are in Club World or Club Europe business class. This is double the previous guarantee and should make spending Avios much easier, particularly on routes that are in high demand.

Get up to 50% bonus when you buy Avios

There is no minimum purchase, although your bonus depends on how many Avios you buy.  The bonus kicks in at 30% with the smallest 1,000 Avios transaction and gradually increases, all the way up 200,000 Avios where you can collect a whopping 100,000 bonus on top.

Here are the bonus levels:

  • 1,000 – 8,000 Avios = 30% bonus
  • 10,000 – 90,000 Avios = 40% bonus
  • 100,000 – 200,000 Avios = 50% bonus

You need to visit ba.com via this page by midnight on Sunday in order to make the most of this offer.

Note that, unlike some previous offers, the bonus is only for Avios bought for yourself, not for gifted Avios.

What does it cost?

At the top end, you will pay 1.1p per Avios under this offer

Based on my spreadsheet of the last 8.4 million Avios I redeemed, I got 1.21p of value.  This is using very conservative valuations for the flights booked, eg I value a Business Class flight to Dubai at £1,500 because even if BA isn’t charging that there is usually a deal with a secondary airline.

As my core article on ‘What is an Avios worth?’ shows, it is easy to get a lot more than 1.1p.  My valuation is low – but still better than 1.1p – because I do a lot of Gold Priority Rewards (using double Avios to force open a seat, mainly due to school holiday restrictions) and don’t always have a BA Amex Companion Voucher to use.  I also tend to use Avios irrespective of the value, because I am sitting on a lot of them.  If you are strategic you should do far better than me.

If you want to learn more about how to spend your Avios most efficiently, read our beginner’s guide to redeeming Avios points here.

The link to buy Avios is here. Don’t dilly-dally – the offer ends on Sunday at midnight.

I’ve just had a look at this offer with a view to topping up my avios for an upgrade from PE to CW x2 to Miami but there is virtually no availability on the redemption finder site unfortunately (unless I’m doing something wrong….).

QQ- as I am sitting on a bundle of eVouchers, can I use them to buy Avios +50% with this deal? I suspect not as the eVoucher only seems to be useful for flights…

Off Topic : the Europcar 1£ oneway offers are back. I just managed to book it although there seem to be some IT issues around it, not sure if its my browser only (though I tried multiple ones plus mobile..) or its more than that.. First of all, I think if you try from non-UK IP-address an error is returned in the very first step when you attempt booking (I used my company laptop initially which is on VPN to Holland..). You can get through this easily however when booking from the UK. Then comes the difficulty with the payment, whatever card I tried, it doesn’t seem to go through for authorisation, as you click Pay Now just nothing happens. Eventually the system recognises the struggle and offers the option to send reminder via e-mail to complete booking. I tried that, clicked on the link and on the PC I had the exact same issue. But then I tried the link in mobile browser and that worked ok.. The oneway offer page doesn’t have a mobile version however so you can’t do the whole thing on that, only the last step if you already have a link with the booking details in it..
