STARTS TODAY: Win your share of 500,000 Virgin Points

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Today we are launching a week of exclusive chances to win with Virgin Red, the brand new rewards club from Virgin.

We will be giving away half a million Virgin Points (yes, 500,000 of them) over five days.

We will also be highlighting the many different ways you can spend Virgin Points, from wine and hot air balloon rides to Virgin Atlantic Upper Class flights, from theatre tickets to seats in Virgin Red’s private suite at the AO Arena Manchester.

Win 500,000 Virgin Points

You’ll need to visit Head for Points each day this week, or subscribe to our daily emails, to find out how many Virgin Points are up for grabs and to enter. Each giveaway will close at midnight and they get bigger and better as the week goes on.

Sign up to Virgin Red

As we’re giving away Virgin Points, you’ll need a Virgin Red account to deposit the points if you win.

If you are already a Virgin Atlantic Flying Club member, Virgin Red unlocks more ways to earn and spend points. All you need to do is join Virgin Red and link your existing Flying Club account. You will also be able to monitor your Virgin Points transactions via the Virgin Red app instead of having to log in to the Flying Club website.

If you are not a Virgin Atlantic Flying Club member, Virgin Red is still for you. You can join and access over 100 ways to earn and spend with both Virgin companies and beyond. Rewards starts at just 200 Virgin Points so you don’t need to be a big spender or a big flyer to get something.

Virgin Red is free and open to anyone in the UK aged 18+. Anyone signing up to Virgin Red gets a welcome bonus of 500 Points when you make your first earn transaction, which is enough for two sausage rolls at Greggs*.

Monday’s prize – win 15,000 Virgin Points

Today – and only today – Head for Points and Virgin Red are giving away 15,000 Virgin Points to FOUR lucky winners.

If you already have an active Virgin Points account then 15,000 points will put you a lot nearer your next redemption.

If you are starting from scratch, 15,000 points is enough to get you a number of rewards via the Virgin Red app or website. Examples include:

  • Virgin Active Online+ membership for a year (13,500 points) which lets you access 200+ on-demand classes including yoga, pilates, cycle, dance grid training and even boxing. You can access the classes at any time – day or night – although maybe stick to yoga to avoid waking up the neighbours if you’re exercising at 3 am 😉 You can also set your fitness goal with a tailored six week plan and you’ll also get four free Club passes you can use at any of the 34 Virgin Active clubs nationally.
  • Enjoy the view from the Shard and a three course meal at Marco Pierre White’s London Steakhouse Co (15,000 points). This package, put together by Virgin Experience Days, lets you enjoy the views from the 69th and 72nd floors in the Shard followed by a three course meal plus cocktail for two at Marco Pierre White’s famous London Steakhouse Co.
  • Candles and card holders with Virgin StartUp, which champions small businesses backed by Virgin’s investment fund. You could get a leather card holder from Billy Tannery or the ‘Balearic Isle’ scented candle from Saint Fragrance, which features “opulent Indian white tuberose with calming orris and rich coconut to embody the beauty of a Bohemian sundown. Infused with warm cardamom, amber and creamy Sri Lankan sandalwood.”
  • A one-way flight to Paris on Air France in business class (8,000 Points + taxes and charges) – need we say more?

Alternatively, you can spend your 15,000 points on a grand total of 75 Greggs sausage rolls. Luckily Virgin Points never expire so you don’t need to eat them all at once.

  • John says:

Sorry this promotion is not allowed in your region

Serves me right for going on holiday, i suppose…

    • Rob says:

Competitions without a skill element are illegal in many countries unfortunately. You will note that we haven’t even used the word ‘competition’. The ‘big one’ on Friday will run for longer than a day so you should be back in time.

    • ChrisC says:

There are often restrictions on some HFP competitions.

I’ve seen them be restricted to entries from he UK, or the UK and RoI and sometime just Great Britain.

      • Rob says:

Reason 1 is that these competitions are funded from UK marketing budgets, even if sponsored by Qatar Airways etc.

Reason 2 is that competitions without an element of skill are illegal in many countries.

Reason 3 is that if we open it up to all, as long as the prize is electronic someone will stick it on Baidu and 10,000 Chinese will enter (seriously – I mean, wouldn’t you if the prize was sellable, worth more than your annual salary and took 5 seconds to enter?).

        • jack charlton says:

technically it is not a competition, it is a free to enter lottery.

    • Save East Coast Rewards says:

Turn off Wi-Fi and enter with your mobile phone. I noticed that my phone with the UK SIM in it still has a UK IP address when overseas which is useful for iPlayer and probably will work for this too

  • In-chan says:

Any flexibility on changing between the 2 virgin credit cards? Can you easily change from the free one to the paid one? Or change paid to free and only pay pro rata annual fee?

    • Rob says:

      No, it’s a nightmare.

      This is the process:
*cancel your existing card (no pro-rata fee refund)
      *apply for the other card
*be rejected as you have had a card in the past 6 months
*ring Virgin and explain you are trying to up/downgrade
      *be accepted

      • pigeon says:

Do you still qualify for the sign-up bonus if you use this route? Or could it be better to wait the 6 months, then get the 15k sign-up bonus – e.g. if annual spend < £20k.

      • Roy says:

In my case (going from the free card to the paid card it was rather smoother than that:

        * Phoned up CS, they said I had to cancel, and then apply for the other card, as expected. They said they would put a note on the account saying I was cancelling due to upgrading to the paid card, and that I should wait until I received confirmation of the cancellation before applying for the new one. Also reminded me that the cancellation wouldn’t complete until the balance was cleared so I cleared it there and then over the phone with a debit card (guess it would have been the same if I had cleared it with the app). Finally warned me that it might be rejected and if so I should call them up and explain.

        * Email came through within a day or so confirming cancellation

        * Applied for new card online immediately after the cancellation confirmation came through.

        * Approved promptly without any further ado, and even got the welcome bonus points.

  • Luke says:

Opened my flying club account almost 10 years ago, still haven’t earned a single point! Just signed up to Virgin red though for the sole purpose of this competition week.

  • Fenny says:

The new iteration of Virgin Red is rubbish compared to the old version, but as I have an account I will enter just to win Virgin points. I just wish they flew to places I want to / am able to visit any time soon.
