New Amex Platinum holders ARE getting the £200 fine dining restaurant credit

At the start of the month, American Express launched a £200 dining credit for holders of The Platinum Card.
Cardholders will receive 100% back when they spend at participating restaurants, up to a cumulative £200. The offer will run until 31st December 2021.
Unlike similar ‘100% cashback’ offers last year, it appears that new applicants after 1st September ARE being given this offer.
I have had a number of emails from readers who recently applied for The Platinum Card.
Once they had made a few transactions, the first batch of Amex Offers appeared on their card and the £200 dining credit was among them. Some had called Amex and managed to get it added before their Amex Offers started to appear.
Now …. for regulatory purposes we need to be very clear here:
We are NOT saying that you are guaranteed to receive the £200 fine dining credit if you apply for The Platinum Card today.
Caveat emptor etc. You have no right to the deal as it is not listed as a card benefit on the American Express website.
All I can tell you is that a number of readers have reported getting it. No-one has told me that they did not get it, although you should put less faith in this because people rarely mention not getting something they were not expecting!
Where can I spend my £200 fine dining credit?
The participating restaurants are here.
If you’re in London, you’re laughing. The list of restaurants is simply outstanding, from 3-star Michelin restaurants through to more casual groups such as The Ivy.
The Ivy Harrogate is pictured above – there are a fair number of non-London restaurants included although there do seem to be big geographic gaps. If you don’t live or work in the M25 then you may want to study the list in detail.
There are over 1,000 participating restaurants across 15 countries, so if you live in Sheffield and think you’ve missed out, you may be able to use it on any foreign trip you’re planning before year end.
Here is a random London selection for the letter ‘B’:
- Bagatelle
- Balthazar
- Bar des Pres
- Bluebird
- Benares
- Bentley’s Oyster Bar & Grill
- Bob Bob Ricard
- Brasserie Zedel
- Bread Street Kitchen
- Butlers Wharf Chophouse
…. and that is just ‘B’.

Remember that, until 2nd November, you will also receive 60,000 Membership Rewards points if you meet the target spend and the bonus criteria. These convert into:
- 60,000 Avios
- 60,000 Virgin Points
- 60,000 Emirates, Etihad, Flying Blue, Alitalia, Asia Miles, Delta, Finnair, Qantas or SAS miles
- 40,000 Singapore Airlines miles
- 120,000 Hilton Honors points
- 90,000 Marriott Bonvoy points
- 180,000 Radisson Rewards points
- 4,000 Club Eurostar points
….. and many other non-travel rewards. I wrote this article on the most valuable Membership Rewards redemptions.
Our review also looks at all of the other card benefits such as airport lounge access via Priority Pass.
To reiterate, we are NOT promising that you will receive the £200 fine dining credit if you apply and you do so at your own risk. Other readers over the past 10 days or so have been successful, however.
