Pick up a Randox ‘Day 2’ test at your local PayPoint store – but you are overpaying

  I beg to differ about the value of Randox day 2 PCR tests. I bought the day 2 LFT (days before the UK changed the rules and required PCR!) and it doesn’t require you to upload a screenshot to a website, it requires you to load their App and do it that way. More hassle for less value. But the PCR tests have to be dropped in a Randox specific drop box. Even in London, those seem few and far between; here in Plymouth there’s ONE and it’s on the outskirts, inside a pharmacy that was closed on New Years Day. Since we were perforce quarantined, we only just got those tests before the time limit after which Randox would not process them

  otoh, my wife said “will these tests be considered valid?” and I said “I would hope so, since the Conservative party is dishing out millions of pounds to them…”

  Being fair to STM, I suppose there are a few other costs:
  – Fulfilment/dispatch (not just postage)
  – (Some sort of) customer service
  – People saying kits haven’t arrived and needing to post another
  – The risk that the rules change and they’re left with thousands of useless tests

  There’s definitely a few quid profit there, but I’m not sure I’d be rushing to bother for less.

  Where they may be missing a trick is shipping eg 5 kits to a frequent traveler in advance (with the traveler taking on the risk that the tests are worthless), at a discount compared to individual postage.

    Weirdly they post each kit separately, even if you order four at once as we do. It implies they are already packaged up in advance to speed things up, just waiting to slap a label on. I don’t think anyone is saying that £12 is an unfair price although you can imagine what Amazon could do if they bothered, given the wholesale cost.

      I was told be their customer services its to ensure it fits through the letter box as some (most?) customers will be abroad?

      They ran out – we sold 300 of them from the one article (and were paid 5p per kit by Amazon for our trouble) – and had scheduling issues over Christmas because of the number of days with no Royal Mail deliveries.

        STM are superb and what’s more, they replied to our emails within an hour when we were a bit unsure of them. We’ve used them twice now and would have no hesitation recommending.

    All the tests that the NHS give out right now are also available for private purchase in many places. Officially you aren’t supposed to use NHS ones, but Klarity don’t know and don’t ask…

    £24 is the base price I think, you need an airline discount code to get it down to £21.

  I have a Randox issued fit to fly LFD kit that I couldn’t use to travel to France at Xmas. So I’ve emailed them and asked if they can send me a pax locator ref. so I can use it as a day2 U.K. arrival test instead. Quel surprise I’ve had no reply. I won’t be buying anymore tests from them if they don’t respond (we even have a Randox drop off box near to us!)
