The new Aspire lounge in the new pier at Manchester Airport’s Terminal 2 is gearing up for opening.

The Aspire website shows that you can book in from Tuesday 1st February, and this date has also been promoted on social media. It was meant to open in late October but got pushed back due to the drop off in travel.

The new Aspire lounge should be accessible via Priority Pass. We are hoping to review it during March.

Date set for the new Aspire lounge at Manchester Airport

There are two other new airport-run lounges at Terminal 2 which we have already covered. You can read our review of the Escape lounge at Manchester Airport Terminal 2 here and our review of the premium 1903 Lounge at Manchester Airport Terminal 2 here.

Do the 2-4-1 rules allow return leg to be booked from a different country? Thinking of booking the outbound leg before the expiry of the voucher (due to no inbound availability upto expiry date) and use the return leg voucher on a different long haul trip for later in the year.

  • Jacqueline Entwistle says:

I am very confused by all of this. I did as you said to save a companion voucher and booked a flight to Edinburgh. I received the 2 travel vouchers but they still kept sending me emails to check in for the flights. I have not received back the AVIOS or the money I paid?

    • Rhys says:

I had this in 2020 too – the IT systems sometimes get confused, because an FTV is literally just your booking put on hold, hence it is also visible on manage my booking etc.

  • Michael L Wright says:

This morning at about 8.20 a.m. I rang BA in order to cancel a US return flight, for which I had used a companion voucher. I asked the agent, Harvey, for a cash and Avios refund, but the agent said that if I did that it would cost me 2 x £35, but if I went for the Future Travel Voucher option I could book cheaper flights for trips returning by 30 September 2023 and the difference in cash and Avios would be refunded. The Future Travel Voucher route, he said, would have the advantages that (a) the companion voucher, which he looked up and advised expired at the end of March 2022 would be extended and usable for flights returning by 30 September 2023, and (b) save the 2 x £35. I asked that in the worse case scenario could I just have all of my money and Avios back, and he advised that I could at any time up to 30 September 2023, ring up, quote the original booking reference, say that I wanted to cancel and have all of my money and Avios back, less the 2 x £35 cancellation fees. I was surprised that the £35 per person cancellation fees for Avios booked flights were no longer being waived; was the agents advice correct in this? This telephone conversation is presumably recorded and is binding on BA?

    • Rhys says:

That’s correct. The fees are only waived if BA cancels your flight, not if you choose to cancel on a flight that is still operating.

    • Rob says:

You pay the £35 to break it. Otherwise, everyone – instead of paying £35 to cancel an Avios flight – would turn it into an FTV and then call up BA to break the FTV to save £35, thus causing even more pressure on the call centre.

      • Adrian says:

What Rob says is correct, but i took a FTV for a flight last month as i couldn’t get through to cancel even on the gold line, yesterday phoned up expecting to pay the 2x £35 to refund the FTV but was told there wasn’t a fee, so very pleased with that and the wait was only 15 mins.

  • Michael L Wright says:

Apologies, but my point was that I am pretty sure that at one point during the recent pandemic (note my optimism) I cancelled an Avios/companion voucher flight which was still operating and the 2 x £35 fees were waived.

  • SilverLining says:

About to book a flight with companion voucher which I am then going to cancel for FTV to extend the validity of my companion voucher which expires in May. Do I have to book a return flight or can I go for one way and thus halve the cash and miles that I handover short-term?

  • Napoleon Zemah says:

    Looking forward

  • Chris says:

Hey guys. I have just requested cancellation on a booking with 2-4-1 and received 2 eVouchers (FTV) valid until September 2023. However, the email mentioned nothing about the 2-4-1 voucher. Is this normal or I should wait a couple of days until I see it again with its new validity?

    • Rob says:

      See what with new availability?

You DON’T get your 241 back, or your cash, or your Avios. It is all wrapped up in the FTV.

      • Chris says:

Thank you, Rob. I was left with the impression that it will be some sort of a returned 2-4-1 with new validity, but now I understand. I simply have to call BA and use my 2 FTVs to book new flights. The original one was for Premium economy, because I genuinely could not travel, but hope they will allow me to upgrade to business once I try use the FTVs in future 🙏

  • Simon says:

Are people continuing to receive emails? I have 8 FTVs and not received any…..?
