IT’S BACK, BE QUICK: Many IHG hotels showing at half price or less for points!

The crazy IHG redemption deal which popped up a couple of Sundays ago is back. Whether or not it is an IT error, you should MOVE NOW.

Many IHG hotels globally, for many dates, are currently bookable for roughly half – or less – the usual number of points.

The pricing appears to be:

  • Kimpton – 45,000 points
  • Regent / InterContinental – 35,000 points to 45,000 points
  • Hotel Indigo – 30,000 points
  • Crowne Plaza – 25,000 points
  • Holiday Inn / Holiday Inn Express – 20,000 points

Last time I booked Kimpton Paris and the new Kimpton Mallorca for 45,000 points and InterContinental London for 40,000 points.

The Kimpton Paris, for the date I wanted, was over 100,000 points per night when I looked a few days earlier, with a €660 cash rate.

It isn’t clear if not all hotels are taking part or only certain dates are included. I can’t get the InterContinental Amstel (below) for when I need to be in Amsterdam, for example, but I know others have booked it.

The real value here is at hotels which are usually hugely expensive for cash and would therefore be 100,000+ points per night under IHG’s new dyanamic pricing model. Not every hotel is a bargain under this deal – in some cheap cities, prices will have gone up today because these are properties which benefit from dynamic points pricing.

Funamentally …. if you’re getting over 1p per point it is a steal. If you’re getting 0.75p per point it is far better than normal. If you’re getting 0.4p to 0.5p per point then don’t get excited – this is what you’d usually expect.

This could be a mistake but it could be an unprecedented flash sale which is due to be announced tomorrow. Mr & Mrs Smith hotels are not included, which leads me to believe that this is a deliberate sale of some sort. Regardless, it is worth making some speculative bookings – remember that all reward nights can be cancelled.

Don’t hang around – with free cancellation there is NO downside, albeit check the rules for peak times such as New Year’s Eve.

Should you buy points?

There is currently a 75% bonus if you buy IHG points. You can buy here.

People who did this last time said that they were posting immediately. I am not guaranteeing this to you but it is working for others. Note that some people had issues when trying to make multiple purchases as security delays appear to kick in.

The ‘buy points’ page is here if you choose to risk it. You can learn more about IHG One Rewards in our overview article here.

Can’t see it asked already in comments, but if I book 2 nights in Crowne Plaza Amsterdam for 2 people, and add my wife’s name on the booking, will she be able to check in without me being there at all?

    • TGLoyalty says:

Very likely. Just make sure she doesn’t check in with another adult that’s not you 🙂

    dead

  • r* says:

Is this happening cos IHG are making changes to the live system?

When clicking the view available dates for a points booking, the calendar is now intermittantly displaying the points per night on the calendar, Ive not had that happen before?

Thanks Rob. I booked multiple US & Canada hotels last week for a trip in November and next April/May. Cancelled the bookings and rebooked reward nights (luckily rooms still available) and have saved 100k+ points. Great news article and fantastic information. Keep up the excellent work.

  • Louise K says:

Not working for me anymore. Second time I missed out on this deal.

  • Lady London says:

    Hum. I snoozed I losed.

  • Andrew J says:

Offer still alive and kicking, just that some popular hotels seem to have now maxed out for the offer (Le Grand, Park Lane etc). But still lots of bargains to be had.

    • ChrisC says:

Indeed . It is rather irksom when people post the offer is ‘dead’ when they really mean ‘I can’t find anything for the dates and destinations that work for me’

HIs and HIEs seem to be reverting back to their original prices. Among others, my 20k pn Key Largo New Year booking is now 82k pn!

    • swifty says:

Hi Anna, I was looking at booking the miami bricknell suites for 13k points, and as I pulled the trigger it reverted to 51k..so have gone for beach front holiday inn, 7 nights for 140k, when rack rate is 350US pn, seems a bargain, will have to get creative to get there though as no flights to miami on ba 2 4 1 for my dates, in fact any dates. But you prompted me to go for it! thanks! we did have a booking my daughter and I back in 2020 and got cancelled for covid, 2nd time lucky? The previous flights were only 1.2k in taxes, and now are 1.6k in bus.

      • NorthernLass says:

Hi Swifty, I couldn’t get CW to MIA on my outbound date either so we’re now doing F to IAD and connecting to Key West for the start of our Keys road trip. The Key Largo HI is over $500 pn on our dates so I’m hoping these bookings stick as per last time!
We did manage to get RFS back from MIA in January but the whole first week is booked out now unless anyone cancels or BA release more seats.

        • Swifty says:

thanks for the IAD suggestion, was looking at orlando and a bus ride/other flight. Having never been to USA before I don’t mind a bus I think, be interesting to see some of it.

    • dahokolomoki says:

Kimpton Key West for 45k a night over Xmas and New year’s was the real steal!

      • NorthernLass says:

Yes but we need 2 rooms, so for 5 nights in Key West so I used my stash of Bonvoy points to book a condo at the Marriott Key West Beachside which does the same job! Then used 520k HH points for 5 nights over Xmas at the Hampton Inn Marathon, then Key Largo for NY.
