How can you earn frequent flyer miles or hotel points with Enterprise Rent-A-Car?

Compared to Hertz or Avis, Enterprise is definitely in the second tier when it comes to earning rewards in airline or hotel programmes. However, you can’t let the tail wag the dog, and you may find yourself somewhere where Enterprise is the most convenient or cheapest option regardless.

For a UK resident, you can see the partners available on this page of the Enterprise website.

What are the best Enterprise Rent-A-Car partners?

The problem is that none of the partners are very generous, frankly.

Here are your options:

Virgin Flying Club

You earn 100 Virgin Points per day, with a cap of 1,200 points per rental. I would value this at £1 per day. Full details are on the Enterprise site here and the Virgin Atlantic site here.

Flying Blue

Flying Blue is the Air France and KLM airline loyalty scheme.

Interestingly, Flying Blue is a revenue based partnership. You earn 4 miles for every €1 or equivalent you spend with Enterprise.

There is no cap, which makes this a good option for longer higher-priced rentals. Take a careful look at the small print about which charges do and do not count when calculating your ‘qualifying’ spend.

Turkish Miles & Smiles

This option is less likely to be of use to a UK resident. You earn a flat 500 Miles & Smiles miles per rental.

There is also Hilton Honors

Enterprise US has a deal with Hilton Honors which also works for UK rentals. As far as I can tell, you need to book via the Hilton website here.

You will earn 500 Hilton Honors points per rental, worth a grand total of £1.66 given our 0.33p valuation of a Hilton point.

Conclusion

As you can see, Enterprise has a thin range of partners if you book via the UK site.

As none are offering huge sums of miles, I would recommend taking points in a scheme where you are already collecting, irrespective of how good or bad the rate. It is better than having a few ‘orphan’ miles in another programme which end up expiring, unused.

If you have balances in any non-European frequent flyer programmes, it is worth looking at Enterprise websites in other countries. There may be other options available.

Are these instead of the normal Enterprise Plus points, or is it a double dip? Enterprise Plus is the only rental company where I’ve actually managed to redeem points for a free rental day before they expire or devalue. c.f. Hertz…

Hi Rob. There are a couple of potentially better earning options with Enterprise, who I use regularly because of a particular convenient pick-up location.

    1. Hilton Honors points – 1000 for a 1 day hire, 1500 for a 2 day hire, 2000 for a 3 day hire and so on…until 5000 for 9 days or more.
    2. Free days through National Emerald – even though I’m (nearly) a Hilton only man, this is my preferred option. Due to the association between Enterprise and National, can credit the hires to National, and work towards earning a free day, which can then be used with Enterprise or National. They last till the December of the following year, and are really handy for short hires where prices are high.

    • Rob says:

Thanks. Weird Enterprise doesn’t list that.

    • memesweeper says:

does (1) require booking through the Hilton portal?

      • Rob says:

Seems so as far as I can see?

      • Chancer says:

Yes, and there is a little Brucie bonus in doing so…I never bothered calculating the percentage, and it might be dynamic anyway, but it always seems to shave a couple of quid off the price seen on the Enterprise site. It’s so reliable I don’t even bother going to their site anymore, just go straight on to Hilton’s.

        • Chancer says:

PS: Another advantage is you get better booking modification rights this way.

          • Conor Mc says:

What are the better booking mod rights, if you don’t mind me asking? I was trying to figure out even cancellation rights the other day and couldn’t really find what I was looking for.

  • Josh B says:

This is one of the few remaining areas I use my top cashback account for.

  • Chancer says:

On the car hire subject, this is a reminder you have a week left to book & pay for any bookings with Hertz working towards that spend £300/get £75 cashback. You don’t have to pick up the car in April, but the spend does need to post by 30th April.

If you have a platinum card, use CDP 633306 and remember the four hour grace period on return. They have reasonable deals on Polestars in most branches up to about the end of June. (There’s some subtle promotion running on electric cars with them.)

I made some bookings assuming (naively) that I would receive this. Turns out, buried deep in the T&Cs is the line “Offer only valid on UK Domestic Rentals only”. Seems pretty sneaky. Also to add, I made the booking whilst in Ireland and on my AMEX statement it seems to have been processed by Hertz RAC Wexford, bizarrely

      • Chancer says:

That’s a kick in the cods. I once got caught out like that with their Hilton cashback offer at a Moroccan resort. I diverted a touch over £200 of the bill from my US Hilton Aspire card to a UK PRG, sacrificing about 3500 HH points with no foreign transaction fees, to get £50 cashback, not knowing the transaction wouldn’t be eligible. Received about 400 MR points total for foreign spend, but lost about £6 in transaction fees.

A couple of weeks later, after the offer expiry date, a chat agent explained to me why the cashback never came. I’m sure like me, you won’t get caught out again like this.

  • Chancer says:

To Conor MC: through Hilton, can modify the reservation pretty much right up to the last minute, subject of course to what stock is actually in the yard. A couple of times I’ve modified a reservation online an hour or two before pick-up to make it a different day, without penalty. Price adjusts of course, but no issue. I’ve also changed the pick-up time to later in the day (and adjusted the time on the return date to suit, so no extra days charged).

My experience previously, with Enterprise directly, was having to get on the phone and it taking a while to achieve the same thing, with them making it sound like they’re doing you a favour and you owe them one.

  • Chancer says:

Rob, I noticed you updated the article re: Hilton, but you’ve said 500 points per rental, which is not accurate. It’s 500 base points per rental, plus an additional 500 bonus points per day of the rental, but subject to a maximum of 4500 bonus points/5000 total points for a rental of 9 days or longer.

    • Rob says:

      This is what it says:

“Base Offer: Earn 500 Hilton Honors Bonus Points for every completed Qualifying Rental as defined below. Non-US Reservations must be made 24 hours in advance.

Bonus Offer: Earn an additional 500 Hilton Honors Bonus Points per rental day, up to 4,500 Bonus Points, per Qualifying Rental booked through this site (Hilton.com). Hilton Bonus Points earned are based on the length of the Qualifying Rental based on the table below. Offer valid for rentals reserved on 01/01/2023 or after and completed by 12/31/2023.”

…. so offer now over in theory.

  • tw33ty says:

Only time I use them now is when I have an Amex offer and it’s a business hire, as I find the cars from them older, much higher mileage and generally poorer condition than other rent brands.

I’d never use them for personal car hire.
