If you haven’t stocked up on wine yet for Christmas, Virgin Wines has launched a generous offer for anyone with 12,500 Virgin Points to spare.

You can order a Virgin Wines advent calendar, containing a mini bottle of wine PER DAY and a full bottle for Christmas Day itself, for just 12,500 Virgin Points including delivery.

There are three different advent calendars on offer:

Virgin Wines advent calendar

Mixed Wine Advent Calendar – 12,500 Virgin Points

  • 24 x 187ml bottles of red, white and rosé wine
  • 1 x full size bottle for Christmas Day!

Red Wine Advent Calendar – 12,500 Virgin Points

  • 24 x 187ml bottles of red wine
  • 1 x full size bottle for Christmas Day!

White Wine Advent Calendar – 12,500 Virgin Points

  • 24 x 187ml bottles of white wine
  • 1 x full size bottle for Christmas Day!

These advent calendars cost £98 including delivery if you pay cash (you can buy here for cash if you don’t have 12,500 Virgin Points) which means that you are getting 0.8p per Virgin Point. This is substantially better than the 0.5p you get from most Virgin Red redemptions and close to what you would receive for a flight reward.

To order, you need to download and register with the Virgin Red app, link your account to your Virgin Flying Club account and then order via the app or the website here.

Standard delivery is within three working days for orders placed by 4pm.

You can find out more about what’s in each case via the Virgin Wines website here but you need to buy via Virgin Red if you are using points.

I usually buy this as a gift for my daugher and son-in-law – I know it’s not the best use of VS points but since my wife has MS and I have Colitis, long haul is not a great option for either of us and we have accrued rather a lot of points.

I’ve overall been very pleased with everything we’ve had from VIrgin Wines. However something went wrong this time, I had no order acknowledgement after placing the order on the https://www.virgin.com/virgin-red website yesterday. This morning though I had an email from paypal saying my account had been debited £87.98 in favour of Virgin Wines.

There is an activity shown on my Virgin Atlantic Flying Club account of 0 points referencing the Mixed Wine Advent Calendar.

I chatted to Phillip at Virgin Wines, who said that the offer could only be placed via the App, not on the website, but this is not what the website says. The format there and wording is identical to the app.

I have been referred to Virgin Red to resolve it as Phillip said they cannot change orders placed by Virgin Red. Hmm.
