The action takes place on Thursday 12th January.

There will no services on the central section of the Elizabeth line between Abbey Wood and Paddington.

A reduced Saturday service will run on the Liverpool Street to Shenfield branch.

Of more relevance to flyers, in the west there will be limited services. You will see:

  • two trains per hour running from Paddington to Reading
  • two trains per hour running from Paddington to Maidenhead
  • two trains per hour running from Paddington to Heathrow Terminal 4
  • no services running to Heathrow Terminal 5

Normal services are expected to be running by 9am on Friday but there be disruption to earlier trains, with nothing running through the central area until 7.30am.

Isn’t the current ‘stay 2 nights, earn 3k, and repeat’ offer open to all?

  • memesweeper says:

As a *former* card holder I got the IHG offer. Check now if you used to have the card!

    • Don says:

Same here…and my first check to rebook an existing booking showed that the points required had gone up by 10000, even after the new discount.

      • Dace says:

This is the problem with dynamic pricing. If the hotel rate goes up, it equally goes up. I have been lucky in this has saved me around 15k in points but having such a short window does mean it isn’t likely to be much of a benefit to people who have booked well in advance.

        • Rob says:

Oddly, it might be. I see prices softening for 2023 as recession kicks in – was looking at New York for Easter and some posh hotels are actually looking reasonable now. If you booked too early you may be able to rebook for less.

    • Rob says:

IHG doesn’t know you a former cardholder due to data sharing rules.

      • Andrew. says:

There’s data sharing and there is data sharing.

Creation must provide a monthly report to IHG detailing active accounts and the points earned from 0 to whatever. If the account drops off the list, then it will surely be closed?

Not to forget that Creation probably pays IHG some kind of ongoing commission as introducer for each account – so there will be some form of data sharing there.

Have a close look at the T&Cs for your MBNA Horizon card. I remember being surprised at the last printed one I had (post Lloyds) still had a reference to sharing data with British Midland.

        • Rob says:

Except they don’t. I know (from our work with Virgin Atlantic on the new Virgin Money cards) that they didn’t know who held the old MBNA cards. They know, obviously, which accounts have received miles from the card but they had no idea if someone who stopped receiving miles had closed the card or simply put it in a drawer.

    • Bagoly says:

I have never had an IHG credit card.
But I did get the email with the offer (saying that it is limited to those with IHG credit card)
I did get the ?8 week “mistake” Diamond upgrade last year.

  • Jordan D says:

Bah, George Ezra shoes already gone.

  • Richard B says:

I used this offer yesterday to rebook a stay I’d booked about a fortnight ago. The underlying price has gone down 1k points to which the 20% was then applied, so a genuine saving which was nice

  • Alan says:

The IHG sale is superb, I saved over 40k points rebooking some hotels for the next couple of weeks yesterday!

  • G says:

I booked a night at InterContinental Singapore for 38,000 points. Not too awful!

  • ianM says:

Yes IHG points sale is good, and excellent that they actually show you the discount on screen.
    Too bad nothing for USA

    • Rob says:

USA is there, I looked up some NYC pricing yesterday via my wife’s account.

  • John says:

Wish I could get a definitive answer on integrated ticket options for National Rail + Elizabeth line for Heathrow. Thameslink ticket machines don’t even list Heathrow; advance online tickets have a variety of seemingly identical station/destination codes; while a ticket office sold me ask off peak NR+Zone 6 Underground which didn’t open the EL gate barrier at T5! And how to avail of that integrated Zone6 ticket type for journeys starting at T5, and changing at Farringdon for example?
