JW Marriott Berlin hotel ‘unveiled’ after initial refurbishment

Marriott has unveiled the new JW Marriott Hotel Berlin – image above, and website here.

Located on Stauffenbergstraße, the JW Marriott Hotel Berlin is directly adjacent to Tiergarten, a location which has apparently influenced the new interiors.

It is primarily a conference hotel with 48 event spaces and the largest ballroom in Berlin. If you are travelling for leisure, you may be more interested in the spa, pool, sauna, steam room and two treatment rooms. There are not one but two fitness centres!

JW Marriott Berlin hotel

Previously Hotel Berlin Central District, this cavernous 505 room hotel is undergoing a full refurbishment.

Whilst it isn’t fully clear what work has and hasn’t been done, it appears that the restaurants and public areas have been fully refurbished.

The statement says “the ongoing development of the hotel will see the property’s full transformation finalized by 2025, with the complete renovation of all guestrooms”. It implies that, at present, some or all of the bedrooms may not have been refurbished. The room photos on the hotel website don’t look hugely enticing.

The JW Marriott Berlin website is here.

Meanwhile, my review of the ‘regular’ Marriott Berlin – which is actually one of the best in the chain – is here.

We’ve also reviewed Grand Hyatt Berlin, Accor’s Pullman Berlin and Hilton’s Waldorf Astoria Berlin in recent years.

I went to the new terminal 1 at CDG two weeks after it had opened, just before Christmas. It is an absolutely stunning terminal. The waiting areas for the gates are beautiful and every seat has a plug and USB sockets.

They also have an Extime lounge there, which was nice looking but a bit basic in its options. I was flying QR and their lounge is being refurbished.

  • The Jetset Boyz says:

BA and Qatar Airways have both been using American’s lounge at CDG – and they put on quite a spread when it comes to food and drink.

    • Paul says:

Yes, the AA lounge was a decent option when open! The problem has been that it closed at 2pm and BA then offered ( check notes) NOTHING!!

As a Gold card holder travelling in Club last May I only discovered this after going through security etc and, due to an early arrival at the airport and the now familiar BA delays, was stuck for almost 3 hours without any access to a lounge.
Flyertalk had an entire thread on this! What was doubly galling was that BA offered nothing even if you were aware of the lack of a lounge and asked at checkin. There wasn’t so much as a voucher for a coffee.
American did extend to 2:30pm later in the year and a visit last autumn was a bit more comfortable

    • Marc says:

Qatar now fly out of the newly reopened terminal 1 from CDG since December. The lounge isn’t amazing as but is comfortable and good to look at. A new Qatar lounge at terminal 1 is being created.

  • leigh curry says:

There is no lounge either at Punta Cana you get a voucher at checkin why don’t they tell you this ?

    • NorthernLass says:

When did you last get this? This used to be the case at GCM but they even took away the ($12) voucher post-covid!

  • sayling says:

    What is ‘greency’?

  • David says:

    Finalement!!

  • Bagoly says:

That JW Marriott Berlin is the first major hotel front page I have come across which says “pet-friendly” in the first sentence.
I’m very much in favour of making such features clear, and of hotels aiming at different markets.
So I will be avoiding this hotel and hoping that all those Berliners who take dogs with them to hotels go there rather than elsewhere.
What is missing is filters on the hotel group websites and the OTAs for “not pet friendly”.

    • Harry T says:

Kimpton is a brand that often emphasises it’s pet friendly nature too.

  • thelargeguy says:

How long will BA depart CDG from 2B for so people are able to take advantage of this lounge before refurbishment of 2A is over and presumably BA moves back there?

  • Londonsteve says:

Does anyone have experience of the Extime lounge at CDG, specifically the food and drink on offer? Is there any other option for BA status holders at CDG at the moment after the AA lounge closes? I was just about to book a flight to LHR, I’m pleased I didn’t as I wasn’t aware I wouldn’t be able to use the AA lounge in the evening! Make mental note to oneself to always check lounge opening hours carefully. Lounge access and anticipated good French food and drink were going to be a key aspect to flying instead of taking the Eurostar!
