Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Get 30 Nectar points (19 Avios) per £1 at eBay TODAY

As we trailed last week, eBay is bringing back its ‘Power Hour’ promotion for Valentines Day.

Between noon and 1pm today (Tuesday 14th) you will earn 30 Nectar points per £1 spent at eBay. This converts to 19 Avios per £1. If you value an Avios at 1p, it’s a 19% rebate.

Here’s the small print:

  • you MUST register in advance
  • you only earn the bonus on the first £300 you spend. Your Nectar earning will be capped at (£300 x 30) 9,000 points which would convert into 5,625 Avios.
  • there is a £10 minimum spend
  • you only earn the bonus on ONE ITEM
  • only ‘Buy It Now’ items will qualify

If a seller if offering a bundle of items for a flat combined price – eg ’10 historic FA Cup Final programmes for £50′ then this still counts as ‘one item’.

The standard eBay rules on excluded categories apply. Full details of excluded categories are here but in summary, you won’t earn on:

  • Cars, Motorcycles and Vehicles (parts and accessories are NOT excluded)
  • Holidays & Travel
  • Property
  • Gift Vouchers & Coupons
  • Baby Feeding: Formula

‘Gift vouchers’ is a key one to note.

Don’t leave it too close to 1pm. Some readers had issues last year when, buying at the last minute, eBay decided that they had booked the transaction just after 1pm even though the customer pressed ‘buy’ shortly before.

The registration link should be on the eBay home page is here. If not, it may be on on this special eBay / Nectar page which is the same page you need if your Nectar and eBay accounts are not linked.

(If you don’t see the ‘Activate’ button online – and I see it at the top of the home page on mobile – then go via the Nectar app.)

Note that you cannot add your Nectar number at check out – the accounts must be linked before you start.

If you can’t see a registration link above, look in the Nectar app or the Nectar website (log in required).

And remember …. don’t buy anything after 12.55 if you want to be certain of getting the bonus.

PS. If you don’t have the Nectar American Express credit card, take a look at our review here.

12:01 no where to be found..
    Pulled out offer?

    • Peter says:

Ok it’s there.. but the £300 item shows 300 points instead of the larger chunk..

      • patrick says:

Mine is the same, previously the additional points were shown. Are we going ahead anyway?

        • Rob says:

Yes, I am definitely activated but don’t see the bonus at checkout ….

Will leave it for a few minutes and try again.

        • Peter says:

I will, if it doesn’t work I will return the item :/

      • J says:

Same. I’ve definitely activated the offer (shows the activation in history under the Nectar tab on the ebay website) – but not showing bonus points in breakdown before completing payment. Let’s see….

      • Simon says:

I had the same but after purchase the correct additional points are showing on the Nectar activity

    • Travel Strong says:

Same here, and has had the same fault in recent weeks on lower (e.g. 5x ) offers.
Activated. And showing 60 points instead of 1800.

    • can says:

      same here..

  • Gavin says:

12.03 and the activate now link on the nectar site goes to an ebay 404 page – great execution from these companies as usual

  • Doc says:

Doesn’t work since tried to activate using the app and it says
“We ran into a problem and can’t activate the Nectar bonus offer.
    Please try again later.”
Oh well, that was a waste of my time.

    • patrick says:

Mine did the same but had actually registered.

    • GeorgeZ says:

      Same

    • Doc says:

Thanks patrick and GerogeZ. Still didn’t work for me and so I had to unlink and then relink nectar and ebay and then hey presto, it worked and just bought an item I needed and the bonus points are showing up 5 minutes after the purchase has gone through.

  • Jerry says:

Worked for me, activated on home page. Delayed intended purchase until 12 for this widely expected offer!

    • Paul says:

Worked as in the offer activated or you saw the bonus Nectar points at checkout?

  • Hb says:

I bought. It didn’t show the bonus – but then it confirmed the bonus after purchase.

    • Rob says:

Thanks. I will pull the trigger on mine – it’s only a small item so little to lose and I need it anyway.

      • Peter says:

Bought item for £300, it showed 300 points, even after purchase. But when I go to Nectar page on eBay, it shows there BONUS POINTS: 9000.

    • Phil says:

Same for me. Bought a book for £29.99 and it’s showing as 899 points awarded.

  • A13 says:

Waiting to see the increased nectar figure before buying as that was displayed previously. Hopefully shows by 1..!

  • Mutley says:

Far too much faff, the economist for £129 and 15000 Avios so much easier.

    • phantomchickenz says:

How long did the Avios take to post? Subscribed 3 days ago and still waiting.

  • can says:

gave up. found the item suddenly much cheaper on amazon, which is weird.
gods are playing a game on me…

    • Peter says:

You can buy £500 Sainsbury GC on Ebay for £495 (-£45 offer so £440), buy Amazon GC at Sains using it (£2.50 in Nectar) and then spend it on cheaper Amazon 😀
