Marriott Bonvoy has launched its Autumn promotion.

You can register here.

It has two elements to it:

  • you earn 1,500 bonus Marriott Bonvoy points per stay
  • you earn an extra 3,000 points for every three brands you stay at
Marriott Bonvoy Autumn 2023 bonus points promotion

This means, in theory, you could earn 2,500 bonus points per stay, although in reality it is likely to be less.

What is the new Marriott Bonvoy promotion?

This is how it works in a nutshell:

  • the promotion runs from 12th September to 6th December
  • registration closes on 22nd November
  • you receive 1,500 bonus points per stay
  • you receive 3,000 bonus points for every third brand you stay at
  • there is no minimum stay required
  • existing bookings are OK
  • reward nights do NOT count
  • nights at the Ritz Carlton Yacht Collection, Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott Executive Apartments and owner-occupied weeks at vacation clubs do not count

The wording in the rules contradicts itself over whether you can earn the ‘three brands’ bonus multiple times. I am assuming that you can, if you visit enough brands.

What sort of return do I get on my spending?

The standard earning rate in Marriott Bonvoy is 10 points per $1 spent, excluding tax.

We assume a Bonvoy point is worth 0.5p so the 1,500 bonus points are worth £7.50 per stay. This clearly means that short stays at cheaper brands come out best.

However, the carrot of an additional £15-worth (3,000) of points for hitting three brands means that it may be worth moving stays around to maximise your return.

You will obviously earn base points and any elite status bonuses as well as the bonus points.

Holders of the Marriott Bonvoy American Express credit card will continue to earn 6 Marriott Bonvoy points per £1 spent at Bonvoy hotels (2 points per £1 spent elsewhere). Our full review of the Marriott Bonvoy American Express card is here. You can apply for the card here.

Conclusion

This isn’t the most generous promotion that Marriott has ever run, but business remains strong and you should arguably be grateful for anything at all.

What is interesting is that there is NOT a ‘double elite nights’ element, meaning that Bonvoy must be happy with the number of members who are on track to earn or retain status for 2024.

I recommend you click here to register now in case you forget – especially as Marriott is being naughty by closing registration early on 22nd November.

  • MT says:

While I agree business is strong, I have noticed a slight weakening in hotel proces in London for the months ahead. So I do wonder if the bubble while not bursting is starting to slowly leak. Generally I have found Marriott to be the most expensive of the big chains in London, so competition is possibly starting to catch up with them. That or people are realising that for similar money you can get much better hotels away from Marriott.

As for the promo, it’s so insignificant it won’t have any impact on my choices.

    • Crafty says:

Agreed, Marriott prices in London are always very high. I don’t often bother checking them now as a result

    • Blair Waldorf Salad says:

Astonishingly high to the extent any kind of mattress run isn’t possible in London anymore. The Resi Inns used to be a possibility but no longer.

    • Nick says:

      Agree too MT!

Marriott appears to be significantly higher than the other major brands for London bookings, especially in December. I found the current rates for the likes of London Marriott County Hall, where we’ve stayed a few times before, to be world’s apart now, from what we’d say, are hotels of a similar quality.

      • Nick says:

Plus, there are many excellent, indeed often better properties, outside of central London, with excellent, ‘next door’ transport routes, to the centre, which are absolute no brainers, IMHO, when you compare the hotel rates!

  • Rizz says:

A very weak promo, will definitely not impact my decisions where to book. What’s the point?

  • MF176 says:

“To earn the additional 3,000 bonus points, members can only stay once at each participating Marriott Bonvoy hotel brand during the promotion earning period.”

So for example, 1x Marriott, 1x Courtyard and 2x Moxy would exclude you from the 3k as you’ve stayed twice at Moxy!? They are terrible at the wording of their T’s & C’s aren’t they!

    • TGLoyalty says:

No, but you can’t use the 2nd moxy plus another two to get the 3k again

As far as I know see you get 3k every time you stay at 3 different brands

  • Kowalski says:

Very underwhelming promo from Marriott. No surprise. Business is booming for them at the moment.

  • James says:

Im a gold member, and got this response to signing up to the promotion: A Note About This Promotion
We’re sorry, but there was an error in directing you to this promotion.

    Anyone else??

  • Mark says:

    I got the same thing.

  • BTW says:

I’ve had exactly the same issue: a “Promotion Unavailable” error.

  • Burrium says:

I had to contact the Marriott help desk to register as I was unable to register online.
