Marriott Bonvoy has launched its Autumn promotion.

You can register here.

It has two elements to it:

  • you earn 1,500 bonus Marriott Bonvoy points per stay
  • you earn an extra 3,000 points for every three brands you stay at

This means, in theory, you could earn 2,500 bonus points per stay, although in reality it is likely to be less.

What is the new Marriott Bonvoy promotion?

This is how it works in a nutshell:

  • the promotion runs from 12th September to 6th December
  • registration closes on 22nd November
  • you receive 1,500 bonus points per stay
  • you receive 3,000 bonus points for every third brand you stay at
  • there is no minimum stay required
  • existing bookings are OK
  • reward nights do NOT count
  • nights at the Ritz Carlton Yacht Collection, Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott Executive Apartments and owner-occupied weeks at vacation clubs do not count

The wording in the rules contradicts itself over whether you can earn the ‘three brands’ bonus multiple times. I am assuming that you can, if you visit enough brands.

What sort of return do I get on my spending?

The standard earning rate in Marriott Bonvoy is 10 points per $1 spent, excluding tax.

We assume a Bonvoy point is worth 0.5p so the 1,500 bonus points are worth £7.50 per stay. This clearly means that short stays at cheaper brands come out best.

However, the carrot of an additional £15-worth (3,000) of points for hitting three brands means that it may be worth moving stays around to maximise your return.

You will obviously earn base points and any elite status bonuses as well as the bonus points.

Holders of the Marriott Bonvoy American Express credit card will continue to earn 6 Marriott Bonvoy points per £1 spent at Bonvoy hotels (2 points per £1 spent elsewhere). Our full review of the Marriott Bonvoy American Express card is here. You can apply for the card here.

Conclusion

This isn’t the most generous promotion that Marriott has ever run, but business remains strong and you should arguably be grateful for anything at all.

What is interesting is that there is NOT a ‘double elite nights’ element, meaning that Bonvoy must be happy with the number of members who are on track to earn or retain status for 2024.

I recommend you click here to register now in case you forget – especially as Marriott is being naughty by closing registration early on 22nd November.

  • Peter K says:

When was the last time £7.50 in points swung a hotel stay decision from one brand to another?
It feels a bit like the promotions team were trying to work out the minimum amount they could possibly get away with offering.

  • David E says:

I just tried to register but received an error message (despite earning points rather than miles) : “We’re sorry, but there was an error in directing you to this promotion.

The reason for this error could be:

You’re trying to access a miles promotion and are a points-earner, or vice versa
You are not eligible for this promotion
    This promotion has expired”

    • JohnC says:

I received the same error. Shame as I have some stays coming up…..

      • Rob says:

I’ve had this before, and ended up calling. You are not blocked.

        • JohnC says:

Hi Rob. I called and after the machine identified me it told me that I was not eligible for any promotions right now….

    • Doug M says:

Same. The links for these promotions are at best 50/50 I find.

      • WaynedP says:

Indeed, but despite initial appearances of error message or broken link (latter in my case when I logged into my account on desktop this morning and hit the Register Now button) the offer does actually show as registered in your account.

    • 1nfrequent says:

Are you registered to earn airmiles on your Marriott account? I discovered that I was, which is why it wouldn’t let me register. When I switched my settings to Marriott points, I was allowed to register.

  • Stu287 says:

Well its better than nothing… seems ages since the double night promo ended. Wish they would have offered the points at the end of each 5 stays instead of the different brand thing. 80 something actual nights so far this year and i only made it to 14k of spend so doubt ill get to ambassador even with a likely 10-12 nights per month through to the end of the year. Anyonr else fell like the 23k is a tough ask?

    • TGLoyalty says:

It is at 1.25ishUSD per £

    • Kowalski says:

I’m on 86 nights and just under $15k of spend. I’m not sure requalifying for Ambassador is worth it anyway. Got a personal ambassador now but most of the time even when staying in top properties, the hotel ignores preferences and requests

  • meta says:

They ran double elite nights promo earlier this year. Many people gained/retained status then, plus some of us had the extra double elite nights as part of targeted promo this summer. Marriott’s strategy seems to be to get people to renew status early in the year.

  • Tariq says:

Are you sure that the 3 brand challenge is every 3 brands, and not just a one time thing? The way that I read the terms is that it’s a single bonus after staying at 3 brands, not after _every_ 3 brands.

    • Rob says:

The press release was worded differently …. will take another look.

    • Chas says:

The landing page for my offer is very clear (twice) that it is “+3,000 every 3 brands”

  • Tim Mon says:

Are there any geographical restrictions on the offer, or is it global?

  • Kevin says:

Link not working for me either.

  • George K says:

Pretty uninspiring promo. What’s intriguing is that Marriott has been sending significantly more attractive but targeted promos to some members even during the summer period. I always wondered how it picked and chose.

I also do wonder if we’ll ever see a publicly available double nights/points promo again. All dependent on how next year’s advance bookings look, I guess?
