The Hilton London Olympia hotel on Kensington High Street, where I spent a lot of time during the pandemic on £30 per day ‘day room’ bookings, has announced a huge expansion.

The owners have received planning permission for a £450 million development which will see the hotel more than double in size to 905 rooms.

A rooftop bar will also be added.

The extension will make it the largest London hotel to open for a decade when the work is complete in 2027. Parts of the original building – presumably the facade – will be retained.

The Olympia exhibition centre around the corner is due to complete a substantial redevelopment of its own in 2025, which is presumably behind the Hilton plans. The new Olympia will include on-site Hyatt and citizenM hotels.

The hotel will not be closing immediately, with the work still contingent of securing the necessary funding.
