Qatar Airways opens a lot of additional Avios reward availability

Reports on a number of US frequent flyer sites suggest that Qatar Airways has opened up a lot of additional seats for Avios redemption towards the end of the current booking window (October / November 2024).

These seats are booking at standard rates and not the ‘Q2’ ‘double points’ rates which are becoming increasingly prevalent.

Qatar Airways extra Avios availability

Given how many routes Qatar Airways operates it is difficult to independently verify this, especially as Qatar Airways also adjusts redemption availability by starting point. Someone booking from London – where cash fares are higher and so Avios seats are tighter – may not be shown a seat that someone starting in, say, Dublin would see.

That said, if you were thinking of a trip to Asia, Africa, the Middle East, India, Maldives etc for the second half of 2024 then you may want to take a fresh look.

In theory, Qatar Airways availability and pricing for Avios seats is the same at both ba.com and qatarairways.com. In reality this isn’t always the case so it is worth checking both sites.

This article explains how to link your British Airways and Qatar Airways Avios accounts.

The basketball terminology is strong with this one 🙂

  • louie says:

There was definitely much more Qatar availability to Melbourne and Adelaide for April and May than there has been for months when I looked a couple of days ago.

  • Metty says:

Thanks for the heads up! For a fam holiday to Sri Lanka in Feb I booked two of us on Qatar from DUB and two from LHR; have been regularly checking to see if extra seats released and now they have (except LHR/LGW-DOH). 2 extra Business DUB-DOH and all the DOH-CMB flights so we’re all together now and happy.

For reference, my IHG offer is 80%

    • Melonfarmer says:

      Yeah, mine was 90%.

Hilton offering 100% bonus though (email on 16th).

      • Melonfarmer says:

I did a 5 night (cash, refundable rate) stay with IHG less than 6 weeks ago so I don’t know if that’s a pro or a con wrt the “mystery offer” bonus %age.

  • Geoggy says:

Are Avios bookings on Qatar cancellable in the same way BA ones are for a small fee and full return of Avios?

I currently have the outbound leg of Oz seats booked and I’m waiting to add the return leg to them on a 241 booking.

Booking some Qatar seats might be a good insurance policy if fully cancellable?

Perhaps the forum could add a like button, as clearly it’s impossible for the team to watch everything all the time but a bit of user generated intel might be smart??

    • Rob says:

Ww do keep on top of it as best we can but the sheer volume of 21 articles per week across basically two of us (Sinead being mainly the commercial person) means we can get bogged down.

      • tony says:

Appreciate that. I just thought if there was an option to add a like button then by tracking outliers there you might get an edge.

  • Mouse says:

    *sorry, Rhys not Rob

  • Chris H says:

I saved a load of money in the last 100% points round booking the Indigo in Austin and San Antonio – not quite sure what was going on but buying points from scratch worked out a few 100 cheaper per stay than the best advance rate

    • tony says:

San Antonio is a big conference venue, so suspect it was a spill out of that. Good to see things like that still happen with dynamic pricing!
