Hotel news in brief:

Good Marriott hotel deal in Birmingham

If you need to be in Birmingham at any point between now and August, Secret Escapes has an excellent deal on Marriott’s Aloft hotel.

You are getting a LOT for your money:

  • Full English breakfast included
  • Bottle of wine on arrival per room
  • Unlimited free date changes up to 8 days before you check-in
  • Cancellation available (for Secret Escapes credit) at any point for a £35 fee

The price is just £71 per night between now and March and £75 from April to August. This represents a 50% to 60% discount on the standard rate and that’s before you factor in the wine.

If you want a bigger room, you can have one for a small supplement. The deal is available seven days per week although there are some blackouts.

You can book via this page of Secret Escapes. The deal runs until Sunday although there are only a limited number of rooms per night available.

Marriott's Aloft hotel in Birmingham at 50%-60% off - with free wine and breakfast!

Delta Hotels Forest of Arden Country Club is leaving Marriott

Delta Hotels Forest of Arden Country Club, which was previously a Marriott-branded hotel before moving across to Delta, is now leaving Bonvoy completely.

The hotel is NOT closing but will leave the chain. The last day of operation as a Bonvoy property will be 30th January. The hotel will become a Warner Leisure resort.

Existing cash bookings from 31st January will still be honoured but will not earn Marriott Bonvoy points or elite night credit. Elite benefits such as free breakfast, upgrades and late check-out will not be available. It isn’t clear if reward bookings will be cancelled.

Free cancellation is available for anyone with an existing cash booking who no longer wants to stay.

Worth a reminder that the Radisson app gives further savings. I also find their rates move around like crazy.
I just booked a hotel in Feb for £106 that was £127 on their website (signed in for this offer) and £162 at the OTAs. The app rate had jumped around from £110 to £169 in the last week.

Looks like some good hotel deals in London on Secret Escapes. I’m a novice in this area. Are there any other similar web sites I should be checking out for cheap (supposedly secret) hotel deals in London, Bristol etc?

      Hotwire
      Lastminute.com

Note hotwire rates are confusingly in dollars and sometimes ex-taxes. You see the inclusive rate before committing.

      Lastminute’s customer service is abysmal

A staff member at forest of Arden said it will come a Warners.

  • Mark says:

We stayed at the Forest of Arden hotel back in September. The interiors haven’t been touched since the 80’s and despite the best efforts of the staff (who were great) it felt like it was below even the Delta hotels standard let alone the Marriott it was branded as until the last couple of years.

Stayed at forest of Arden for a couple of nights about 5 years ago, on a staycation. Upgraded as a plat. Helpful to have some of these country-type hotels in Bonvoy stable, so shame to lose it in that sense.

While I agree it needs some nice countryside properties this hotel is massively dated and requires wholesale refurbishment.

We need more Langley / University Arms / The reach etc

        • tw33ty says:

This won’t be the last of the delta hotels that leave Marriott this year.

          • TGLoyalty says:

Probably correct. For FoA it seems Warner actually bought the group that owns the hotels and plans to wholesale refurbish.

The bar/restaurant and the refurbished rooms at the Warwick property are actually quite nice just odd they seem to have stopped at refurbishing 50% of the rooms as the old ones look shocking.

Aloft is my regular stay when I work in Birmingham (probably around 100 nights over last three years). It’s on the edge of town surrounded by universities, with not much near, so not really a place you’d stay for a get away (AC would be good for that if you want to stay within the Marriott group).

The price fluctuates between £70 and £120 so this is a good deal.

    • Travel Strong says:

It’s a nice property. It’s a cheap taxi in to the centre if you do use if for a night out. Has live entertainment downstairs on either Fri/Sat (I forget) and a 2-4-1 cocktail happy hour whilst you wait for the taxi. Solid standard of room and breakfast offering. Paint cutting in on the ceiling was poor, but every thing else good.

    • TGLoyalty says:

Not sure I’d stay anywhere but The Grand for a getaway in Birmingham.

  • Bill says:

Just made my last ever Radisson reservation. To think my 22,000 points were of so little value now….. Well that’s my account balance at zero. Bye Radisson. Wasn’t nice knowing you
