Eurostar will run a huge points seat sale next month

Eurostar will be running a big Club Eurostar points sale next month.

It is surprisingly generous. The discounts are substantial and the travel period covers virtually all of 2024.

There’s only one snag – transfers from American Express Membership Rewards to Club Eurostar are still down. I was told on Friday that it will take another 2-3 weeks to bring them back.

Unless Amex transfers restart, the sale is restricted to those who already have enough points.

Club Eurostar reward points sale

Club Eurostar has never run any sort of points sale before AFAIK, yet alone one this generous.

It is possible that it is being done in response to the ‘no notice’ points devaluation when Club Eurostar was launched last year. The sale reduces reward prices to what they were before October 2023, adjusted for the 20% points uplift everyone got as part of the restructuring.

When is the sale and when can you travel?

According to the email sent to some members:

  • you can book between 6th and 16th February
  • you can travel between 6th February and 3rd November
  • you can also book for travel on ex-Thalys services in Europe, for travel between 6th February and 7th September

What will the Club Eurostar sale pricing be?

These are chunky discounts, especialy as you can redeem on EVERY train on every day, with no blackouts, as long as cash seats are bookable.

Standard

  • 600 Club Eurostar points each way (usually 1,000 points)
  • 900 Club Eurostar points each way (usually 1,500 points) for trains where the allocation of regular priced reward seats has run out
Eurostar redemptions points seat sale

Standard Premier (‘Comfort’ on ex-Thalys trains)

  • 1,200 Club Eurostar points each way (usually 2,000 points)
  • 1,500 Club Eurostar points each way (usually 2,500 points) for trains where the allocation of regular priced reward seats has run out

Business Premier

  • 1,800 Club Eurostar points each way (usually 3,000 points) – this pricing applies to all services

Are there any special terms and conditions?

It seems not, based on the email teaser.

The only thing to remember is that you cannot cancel a Club Eurostar redemption. You can change the date but not cancel it. It’s not clear if the redemption would reprice at the normal rate if you change the date after the offer has ended.

We’ll remind you of this deal when it launches.

Let’s hope that American Express Membership Rewards transfers can be brought back in time, since these would be good value redemptions. The transfer rate is 15:1 so you’re looking at 18,000 Amex points for a return Standard ticket.

It would be ironic if this generous promotion got Eurostar ill-will from customers because they couldn’t do the Amex transfer they needed in order to top-up their account to take part ….

How to get Club Eurostar points and lounge access from UK credit cards

How to get Club Eurostar points and lounge access from UK credit cards (April 2025)

Club Eurostar does not have a UK credit card.  However, you can earn Club Eurostar points by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards

Cards earning Membership Rewards points include:

Membership Rewards points convert at 15:1 into Club Eurostar points.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, so you will get the equivalent of 1 Club Eurostar point for every £15 you spend.

American Express Platinum comes with a great Eurostar benefit – Eurostar lounge access!

You can enter any Eurostar lounge, irrespective of your ticket type, by showing The Platinum Card at the desk.  No guests are allowed but you can get entry for your partner by issuing them with a free supplementary Amex Platinum card on your account.

  • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

Worth a reminder that whilst the STP-AMS direct service will continue from June it will be a Thalys train to BRU and connecting there for a Eurostar to London due to the works at Centraal.

  • Steve says:

Aren’t these exactly the prices before the recent devaluation (allowing for the one-off boost to existing balances that they did at the time)?

    • Rob says:

Yes, which is why I say in the article that this seems to be a way of making up for not giving notice about the devaluation.

      • jjoohhnn says:

The cynic might think that perhaps AMEX transfers aren’t working for a reason – so they can make offer this to their existing customers, not give AMEX customers a free ride to the discount..

        • Rob says:

That makes zero sense, because Amex transfers are still – EVEN WITH THIS OFFER – 20% poorer value than they were before October.

A ticket which was 1000 Eurostar points – and then 2000 points after devalation – will still be 1200 points next month.

Amex transfers are also, I suspect, the main source of 3rd party income for Club Eurostar. I’d be shocked if Hertz delivered much, and Accor is a 2-way partner so the NET income for Eurostar won’t be much.

The other key point is that Amex transfers make Club Eurostar more attractive. If you have the chance of a one-off Eurostar trip, you would value the points you’d earn at nil, because you won’t have enough to redeem them. This may push you towards flying instead. The fact that you can top them up via Amex may encourage you to take that initial cash trip. It’s certainly an incentive for me, given that I do no more than one paid Eurostar trip per year.

  • Luke says:

I currently have 567 points and a 600 point redemption on this would do me a favour for June. I have no ALL points and with AMEX partnerships down, does anyone have a shot at how I could top up 37 points?

    • Froggee says:

Best bet is to see if anyone in your circle of friends has 100 they would be happy to “share” i.e. “points pool” i.e. transfer to you.

    • Strawb says:

Book a cheap Hertz rental and get 100 points.

  • Martin says:

You can Convert Accor 2000 points =300 Eurostar points

  • Chas says:

Rob – is there any indication from Eurostar that the points upgrade price from Standard to Standard Premier will also be cut as part of this promotion?

    • Rob says:

Wasn’t mentioned in the email that selected (not me, oddly) people got but you never know.

  • Zywoo says:

I booked a return 2 weeks ago. Any chance I could change it at the new rate by modifying the dates?

    • Rob says:

I suspect not, although you could ring up and move yourself one train earlier / later and see what happens.

  • Omar says:

I vaguely remember that one could transfer Virgin air miles to Eurostar. Is this still possible? If so how is it done?

    • Rob says:

You can redeem Virgin Points for a Eurostar gift voucher, but not into Club Eurostar points.

  • Rizz says:

Is there a way to see when Eurostar points expire? Don’t see anything in the account… FAQ seems to suggest it’s 24 months but for all accounts active pre 2023 the 24-month clock starts from 2023…?
