The huge Club Eurostar reward seat sale is live – but Amex transfers are still down

Eurostar has launched the big Club Eurostar points sale which we flagged last month.

It is surprisingly generous. The discounts are substantial and the travel period covers virtually all of 2024.

There’s only one snag – transfers from American Express Membership Rewards to Club Eurostar are still down. Eurostar was hoping to have it fixed by today but it was not to be. I was told yesterday that they are still hopeful for a fix before the offer ends.

Unless Amex transfers restart, the sale is restricted to those who already have enough points.

Eurostar reward seat sale

Club Eurostar has never run any sort of points sale before AFAIK, yet alone one this generous.

It is possible that it is being done in response to the ‘no notice’ points devaluation when Club Eurostar was launched last year. The sale reduces reward prices to what they were before October 2023, adjusted for the 20% points uplift everyone got as part of the restructuring.

When is the sale and when can you travel?

Here are the sale rules:

  • you can book until 5pm on 16th February
  • you can travel until 3rd November
  • you can also book for travel on ex-Thalys services in Europe, for travel until 7th September

Remember that the Paris Olympics run from 26th July to 11th August and hotel availability will be exceptionally hard to find during this period. You may also want to avoid the French Open tennis which runs from 20th May to 9th June.

For Amsterdam, note that from 14th June until the year end you will need to change trains in Brussels on your return. This will add 1-2 hours to your travel time. Outbound trips are not impacted.

Eurostar redemptions points seat sale

How many points do you need in the sale?

These are chunky discounts, especialy as you can redeem on EVERY train on every day, with no blackouts, as long as cash seats are bookable.

The T&C do say “Reward Tickets at the promotional rate are subject to availability” but it isn’t clear what this means in practice.

Standard

  • 600 Club Eurostar points each way (usually 1,000 points)
  • 900 Club Eurostar points each way (usually 1,500 points) for trains where the allocation of regular priced reward seats has run out

Here’s an example:

Eurostar reward seat sale

Standard Premier (‘Comfort’ on ex-Thalys trains)

  • 1,200 Club Eurostar points each way (usually 2,000 points)
  • 1,500 Club Eurostar points each way (usually 2,500 points) for trains where the allocation of regular priced reward seats has run out

Business Premier

  • 1,800 Club Eurostar points each way (usually 3,000 points) – this pricing applies to all services

Are there any special terms and conditions?

It seems not.

The only thing to remember is that you cannot cancel a Club Eurostar redemption. You can change the date but not cancel it. It’s not clear if the redemption would reprice at the normal rate if you change the date after the offer has ended.

Let’s hope that American Express Membership Rewards transfers can be brought back in the next few days, since these would be good value redemptions. The transfer rate is 15:1 so you’re looking at 18,000 Amex points for a return Standard ticket.

How to get Club Eurostar points and lounge access from UK credit cards

How to get Club Eurostar points and lounge access from UK credit cards (April 2025)

Club Eurostar does not have a UK credit card.  However, you can earn Club Eurostar points by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards

Cards earning Membership Rewards points include:

Membership Rewards points convert at 15:1 into Club Eurostar points.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, so you will get the equivalent of 1 Club Eurostar point for every £15 you spend.

American Express Platinum comes with a great Eurostar benefit – Eurostar lounge access!

You can enter any Eurostar lounge, irrespective of your ticket type, by showing The Platinum Card at the desk.  No guests are allowed but you can get entry for your partner by issuing them with a free supplementary Amex Platinum card on your account.

Just booked. Only tickets at the 900 price point available so suspect there was no ‘reserved’ 600 point allocation but it followed the rule where tickets are 600 under a certain price point and 900 thereafter. Still, cash equivalent for 2 adults and 2 children is £634 so 17.6p per point is a good outcome.

  • Ben says:

Looking forward to some competition on this trainline. Cash prices are outrageous for a 2 hour journey.

  • Tom says:

It used to be 500 points for an off-peak one-way ticket to Paris, now it’s 900 points and we are lucky to have a 600 points sale … ? Has anyone picked up on this huge increase ?

    • The Original David says:

Err, yes, this was discussed extensively when the new Eurostar scheme was revealed. Your Eurostar points balance would also have increased at that time though.

But yes, if I want to go to Paris/Brussels/Amsterdam, I head to the airport, despite living half an hour from St Pancras.

  • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

Eurostar have said the AMS-STP journey will be extended by less than an hour and that’s to allow passegers to clear security and passport control at Midi.

So the same time frame as before those were available at AMS

  • Jampot says:

Thanks! Do you know if we can upgrade existing bookings at the lower rate?

  • SteC says:

When its back up and running, whats the transfer rate for Amex points? (guessing its not going to be 1:1)

  • Rich says:

Does anyone remember what are the minimum transfer & increments from Amex > Eurostar (if and when it starts working again)?

I only need 82 points for a redemption.

  • Lady London says:

Does anyone know why Eurostar releases its seats only in tranches for dates not very far ahead?

I know other railco’s also tend to allow seats to be bookable varying periods of months ahead of travel date, and typically release them on certain well known dates each year such as 10th December for fixed period of months ahead but Eurostar somehow seems to overall allow less ability to book far ahead.

I’d happily book Eurostar several (say, 8 vs < 1 now) return trips every year on Eurostar if they regularly let trains be bookable 10-12 months ahead.

Now, if I need certainty of availability fitting with other travel arrangements I'm booking up to 1 year ahead such as hotels, events and other transport that connects, I'm only looking at the airlines as Eurostar simply don't release far enough ahead.

With most airlines it's a year ahead and I've had 15 months and longer ahead with Easyjet.

Doesn't Eurostar want people to take Eurostat into account when booking? Their current release pattern militates against this.

For a business where almost all their costs are fixed you'd think Eurostar would want to sell as early as possible to reach the point where their fixed costs are covered and then fine tune their pricing for remaining sales – on which they would make their profit – according to close-in demand and work to adjust their variable costs accordingly. Currently Eurostar is missing out the first bit so they will never make a profit in current selling windows while other competing modes of transport are selling so much further ahead.

    • Zark says:

Lady London, Eurostar were releasing daily for t-330 days for some time, but halted this for the Olympics 26/7-11/8 ,releasing a block on 7/11/23 & then a block on 20/12/23 up to 31/10/24 since when they have released nothing. They will either revert to t-330 day release (perhaps after this points sale?) or stick to blocks in future, but that would be contrary to all previous history, which for years was t-180.
I know this doesn’t help much, but if you wait and see, it may resolve your issues and allow you to book your 8 trips. As it happens,I have precisely 8 currently booked for travel from next week to end October, almost all booked around the t-330 day window.
