British Airways opens its renovated lounge in Lagos

British Airways has unveiled a fully renovated lounge in Lagos airport following a six-month refurbishment.

OK, I admit. I didn’t know BA had a dedicated lounge in Lagos. There is only one flight per day which departs Lagos at 22.45.

It is a four class aircraft with First – usually a Boeing 787-10 – and Lagos is seen as a high value route due to a high percentage of corporate travellers, so it isn’t actually that surprising that the airline wants to attract full fare travellers.

What is in the new British Airways Lagos lounge?

To quote:

The space has been cleverly designed to give customers more room to enjoy an upgraded food and beverage experience. It allows customers to relax, dine or work in a premium space, while also proudly exhibiting local art from Akoje Gallery.

Customers will be transported into a new contemporary lounge as soon as they pass through the grand entrance with floor to ceiling glass. Following significant investment, the airline has created zones throughout the 360 square metres of space to cater for different customers’ needs.

For those who want to dine ahead of the evening flight to London, there is a self-serve dining area with a wide selection of freshly made dishes.  The food and drink menu offers a range of Nigerian classics and British inspired dishes which will change regularly.

Customers can also pull up a chair at a newly built bar where a bartender will serve drinks including cocktails, wine, and soft drinks. Champagne and canapes will also be offered to customers travelling in First.

To commemorate British Airways’ strong association with Nigeria, art from local artists will be displayed across the lounge. The airline has launched a partnership with Akoje Gallery – founded by Maro Itoje and Khalil Akar – to curate an innovative new in-lounge exhibition featuring and celebrating guest artists. The first showcase of works is themed ‘New Beginnings’ to celebrate the lounge opening. The selected artists will centre their works around the chosen theme.

The newly imagined lounge space features a quiet room with day beds, while the main area features relaxing comfy sofas and clusters of tables and chairs. Customers needing to work can take advantage of new printing facilities.

The lounge follows the usual entry rules. It is open to customers travelling in Club World and First, as well as Silver and Gold Executive Club members and oneworld airline equivalents.

  • YFP says:

Is this lounge open if you’re flying Qatar from Lagos?

    • YFP says:

Or to be more precise, is this lounge accessible if you’re a BA silver member flying with Qatar from Lagos? If so, I might be able to support a review of sorts as I’m flying back on Sunday.

  • Andrew J says:

So customers not travelling in First will be not be offered champagne?

  • Rich says:

It’s always good to see a BA lounge receptionist that isn’t sat on the ground like they are at LHR so you can make good eye contact, if they’re not on their phones, rather than knee contact.

Anyone know the background to them sitting so low at LHR?

  • TGLoyalty says:

If the LHR club lounge is as impressive looking as this it will be a major upgrade … let’s hope they go a step further for the first and CCR

  • Dubious says:

    Interesting.
I also note from the last image that the table lamps use the power from the front sockets. I am a little surprised by this given the renovation. Perhaps it was just for the photo.

    • Craig Vassie says:

I’d maybe just be pleased that there’s power?

      • Dubious says:

Well yes – but still I find it surprising for a renovation that dedicated sockets for the lights weren’t designed in.

  • Dev says:

Ahh Murtala Muhammad International Airport … one of the worst airports ever in the history of Aviation! The ludicrous situation of pulling up on stand but a little short in order to bring out the airports sole tow truck to align you with the non-functioning jet-bridge always brings a chuckle! Add in the FIDS screens which have been blank for goodness knows how many years! The coup de grace being the Chinese built terminal where passengers can’t access from the current drop off point without crossing over the 2-3 lane road, and where planes cant access the apron without knocking into each other.

But good to know that we have a new improved BA lounge to pour yourself a very stiff drink after that!

(Btw, Air France have their own lounge as well!)

    • Opus says:

      Literally Lol!
No but the lounge is a great improvement and it’s great to see BA invest in the passenger experience from Lagos. As a BA frequent flier from Lagos it definitely improves the already horrible airport experience.

BA will continue to get my business for being the only airline operating out of Lagos to invest in the ground experience for premium passengers

      • d3vski says:

Ive a been to Lagos over 20 times in the last 5 years and I’ve never seen First and Club go out with empty seats!

        (Likewise with Virgin Upper Class!)

        • kev says:

If its always that full, why don’t they put on more than one flight a day?

          • Dev says:

Try selling that to the Nigerian Government!

          • Opus says:

The Nigerian Government won’t allow them. BA has 14 weekly pairs to Nigeria. A daily frequency to Abuja and a daily frequency to Lagos.

  • Doommonger says:

If travelling to Lagos, please take cash, i’ll say no more.
