Finnair finishes its long-haul cabin refurbishment programme

Finnair has announced the completion of the rollout of its new business class and premium economy cabins across its long haul fleet.

These are the innovative new no-recline seats that, instead of featuring electrically actuated controls, let you turn the seat into bed mode through a flip-up mechanism.

You can get comfortable on board with a selection of pillows, similar to how you would on your sofa at home.

The €200 million-euro project was announced in early 2022, catching the industry by surprise. Just a month later, Rob was able to see the new seats on the first aircraft to be refurbished. 30 months later and all 25 of the airline’s A350s and A330s have the new seats.

Granted, Finnair operates a relatively small fleet of long haul aircraft but the speed of the rollout remains impressive. This is especially true when you consider that the industry is grappling with supply chain issues that have delayed refurbishment programs at other airlines including British Airways.

Whilst we have tried it in person between London and Helsinki, where Finnair often schedules its widebody aircraft for cargo reasons, I am looking forward to seeing how it performs on a long haul flight later this year when I travel to Nagoya. Stay tuned for my coverage of that trip.

Remember that you can book Finnair flights with Avios because the airline is a member of the oneworld alliance alongside BA.

Finnair is also opening a brand new Schengen Lounge at Helsinki, expanding the size of the lounge and bringing it up to standard with its excellent non-Schengen lounges.
