(DEAL DEAD) Very cheap redemption pricing at Marriott’s new Luxury Collection New York

As we have been covering on HfP, the (virtually) ‘all suite’ Conrad New York Midtown hotel left Hilton earlier this month and is now part of Marriott’s The Luxury Collection.

In fact, it is currently called ‘The Luxury Collection Hotel Manhattan Midtown‘, which I think makes it the only hotel in the brand to actually use the brand name.

The hotel is now bookable at marriott.com – click here – and redemptions for Marriott Bonvoy points are very, very cheap.

Crazy redemption pricing at Marriott's new Luxury Collection New York

This is the hotel which was built as The London NYC, a property with a troubled history. It opened as an unbranded ‘all suite’ hotel at entirely the wrong point in the economic cycle.  Readers with long memories may remember that Gordon Ramsay ran the restaurant and it gained two Michelin stars within a year of its 2006 launch.  There was also a branch of Maze at one point as well as a high profile bar.

In 2017 it became a Hilton.  It became the sister hotel of the Conrad in Battery Park – which is also ‘all suite’, here’s my 2017 review – which was rebranded Conrad New York Downtown.

The hotel is located on West 54th Street. For comparison, the southern boundary of Central Park is West 59th.

It is exceptional value for Marriott Bonvoy points

As regular readers know, our ‘fair value’ for a Marriott Bonvoy point is 0.5p.

On a lucky day you can do a lot better, but most of the time 0.5p is about right.

This is a lucky day for you, if you are heading to New York.

Here is points pricing for October 2024 as an example:

Crazy redemption pricing at Marriott's new Luxury Collection New York

October is one of the most expensive months of the year to be in New York and the hotel is selling for over $1,000 per night at times. You will struggle to find the hotel selling for under $800 on any night for a refundable rate.

Points pricing is as low as 34,000 Bonvoy points per night. If you book a five night stay on points, you’d only pay for four nights (the cheapest night is free), taking the cost down even more.

You should be getting at least 2p per Marriott Bonvoy point in October which is 4x our standard valuation.

The hotel has a rip-off $35 per night ‘resort fee’ which Marriott does not waive on redemptions. The good news is that the ‘benefits’ of the fee include a $35 per night food and beverage credit and a $15 per night laundry credit so you should be able to recoup some of the money.

In terms of free breakfast for Platinum Elite and higher members of Marriott Bonvoy, you DO receive it at The Luxury Collection brand if you select it as your welcome amenity. It doesn’t have an opt-out like The Ritz Carlton. Our full article on the Marriott Bonvoy breakfast benefit rules is here.

There is one thing to note when booking

The hotel is pricing Deluxe Rooms and One Bedroom Suites at the same points price.

You do NOT want to book a Deluxe Room. These were created under Conrad management as tiny spaces just for points bookings. You can tell they are a con, because the cash rate is virtually the same as the One Bedroom Suite cash rate despite the rooms being half the size.

Only book a points night if you can get a One Bedroom Suite although this doesn’t seem to be a problem at the moment.

I have rebooked a three night New York stay in October at The Luxury Collection Manhattan Midtown. I will keep my existing reservation at the Park Hyatt just in case there are bad reports about this hotel, but frankly I’d be mad to use 45,000 World of Hyatt points when I can get this hotel – just a couple of minutes away – for an average of 55,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.

You can check availability, and book, here.

There a couple of downsides to the linked web page. I looked at a couple of different suites and there were no pictures of the bathroom.
There was no menu for the in house restaurant.
These are important facets of any stay for me so I would drop this hotel in the pecking order.

    • Rob says:

New hotel, very quick switch from Hilton with little notice. Book it and retain a backup if concerned.

You are having a laugh if you are bothered about the in-house restaurant given the location of this place though, and in any event I suspect Marriott’s new management team will be making a lot of changes.

  • t0m says:

It’s a shame the suites are only for 2 people and not 4. Would have been gamechanging otherwise.

    • Sharon says:

They have 1 bed suites with two Queen beds. Can these not be booked with points?

      • t0m says:

Certainly not for the dates I am looking at.. so would need 2x suites for 4 people. I’ll stick with my 80k points room at the Conrad Downtown 🙂

    • David says:

      Gamechanging… 🙄

  • Sharon says:

Hi Just been onto the hotel’s website and checked the room amenities and FAQ’s and these suites don’t have tea and coffee making facilities or a hairdryer according to the FAQ’s. Ridiculous.

    • Rob says:

Almost certainly they do. Marriott had to bang the site together very quickly.

      • Mark says:

They had very nicely stocked Nespresso machines when I was there a month ago. Can’t imagine Marriott made them rip them out!

  • Odd says:

Has Marriott figured this out? I just went online to switch to this hotel for a planned stay in September, and it says there are no point stays available (or are my dates also just super busy ones?)

  • Odd says:

I also took a look at the October calendar view, and the rates are now much higher (at least 2x) what the screenshot above was showing..

    • Rob says:

Still seeing the same as the screenshot for the dates I booked and I checked a couple of 34k days too – still showing.

      • James C says:

Just booked at 9:15am for weekend in October 34k/ night so still there.

      • TGLoyalty says:

There’s a single night at 71k but yup still pretty much like your screenshot.

For anyone booking I wouldn’t be looking at this expecting a luxury collection experience. I think it’ll be a while until it matches other LC hotels (if it ever does) as it certainly didn’t have glowing reviews as a Conrad other than big rooms and quiet.

  • Mark L says:

Excellent, I am staying in NY for 3 nights in August – booked for 105,000 points. The $35 ‘destination charge’ is a bit bonkers, and what is a destination charge anyway? I sort of understand resort fee, but a destination charge is just money grabbing.

I’m also in Vegas on the same trip; I’m glad I also have a good stash of Hilton points, as they waive resort fees for redemptions

  • Robert says:

Thanks Rob, I’ve also booked for mid-October and selected the one bedroom suite. Would normally keep my Bonvoy points towards 5 night stays but agree this represents great value.

  • Nick G says:

I can see a suite but don’t get it. Select two adults one child only gives me deluxe room which isn’t a bad size at nearly 475sqft which they don’t look like from the pics. No suites offered. Select two adults ONLY and I can see suites, which say max occupancy two yet has a king and allow a rollaway bed which is what I want?! Suite shows as 500sqft.

Not sure what’s going on here or what to do?

    • AnotherUser says:

I’d normally book and then email the hotel to say a kid is coming too. They’re not obliged to accommodate, but never had anywhere refuse where room size was big enough
