(DEAL DEAD) Very cheap redemption pricing at Marriott’s new Luxury Collection New York

As we have been covering on HfP, the (virtually) ‘all suite’ Conrad New York Midtown hotel left Hilton earlier this month and is now part of Marriott’s The Luxury Collection.

In fact, it is currently called ‘The Luxury Collection Hotel Manhattan Midtown‘, which I think makes it the only hotel in the brand to actually use the brand name.

The hotel is now bookable at marriott.com – click here – and redemptions for Marriott Bonvoy points are very, very cheap.

Crazy redemption pricing at Marriott's new Luxury Collection New York

This is the hotel which was built as The London NYC, a property with a troubled history. It opened as an unbranded ‘all suite’ hotel at entirely the wrong point in the economic cycle.  Readers with long memories may remember that Gordon Ramsay ran the restaurant and it gained two Michelin stars within a year of its 2006 launch.  There was also a branch of Maze at one point as well as a high profile bar.

In 2017 it became a Hilton.  It became the sister hotel of the Conrad in Battery Park – which is also ‘all suite’, here’s my 2017 review – which was rebranded Conrad New York Downtown.

The hotel is located on West 54th Street. For comparison, the southern boundary of Central Park is West 59th.

It is exceptional value for Marriott Bonvoy points

As regular readers know, our ‘fair value’ for a Marriott Bonvoy point is 0.5p.

On a lucky day you can do a lot better, but most of the time 0.5p is about right.

This is a lucky day for you, if you are heading to New York.

Here is points pricing for October 2024 as an example:

Crazy redemption pricing at Marriott's new Luxury Collection New York

October is one of the most expensive months of the year to be in New York and the hotel is selling for over $1,000 per night at times. You will struggle to find the hotel selling for under $800 on any night for a refundable rate.

Points pricing is as low as 34,000 Bonvoy points per night. If you book a five night stay on points, you’d only pay for four nights (the cheapest night is free), taking the cost down even more.

You should be getting at least 2p per Marriott Bonvoy point in October which is 4x our standard valuation.

The hotel has a rip-off $35 per night ‘resort fee’ which Marriott does not waive on redemptions. The good news is that the ‘benefits’ of the fee include a $35 per night food and beverage credit and a $15 per night laundry credit so you should be able to recoup some of the money.

In terms of free breakfast for Platinum Elite and higher members of Marriott Bonvoy, you DO receive it at The Luxury Collection brand if you select it as your welcome amenity. It doesn’t have an opt-out like The Ritz Carlton. Our full article on the Marriott Bonvoy breakfast benefit rules is here.

There is one thing to note when booking

The hotel is pricing Deluxe Rooms and One Bedroom Suites at the same points price.

You do NOT want to book a Deluxe Room. These were created under Conrad management as tiny spaces just for points bookings. You can tell they are a con, because the cash rate is virtually the same as the One Bedroom Suite cash rate despite the rooms being half the size.

Only book a points night if you can get a One Bedroom Suite although this doesn’t seem to be a problem at the moment.

I have rebooked a three night New York stay in October at The Luxury Collection Manhattan Midtown. I will keep my existing reservation at the Park Hyatt just in case there are bad reports about this hotel, but frankly I’d be mad to use 45,000 World of Hyatt points when I can get this hotel – just a couple of minutes away – for an average of 55,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.

You can check availability, and book, here.

I am seeing 167.5k for 5 nights for 4 adults which is incredible value. I am guessing the points transfers from Amex are no instant? A big risk this won’t be here tomorrow if I was to go ahead.

    • TGLoyalty says:

Pretty much instant if you’ve transferred before and not really these rates have been there a few days already.

Marriott is dynamic points pricing so it’ll slowly increase but it won’t be overnight

      • iEimis says:

Yeah I have transferred a tiny amount a few weeks ago.

        • TGLoyalty says:

What I find is the app doesn’t refresh as quickly as the site but sometimes logging out and back in refreshes the balance.

  • camille55 says:

Had a free night there years ago when it was The London, courtesy Amex Centurion. Included breakfast, complimentary afternoon tea at Gordon Ramsay; following which headed to Judith Ripka to redeem what I think was a $1000 dollar gift card, also courtesy Centurion! Was a lovely hotel back then.

    • mradey says:

Centurion was lovely back then too. Crickets nowadays, at least for me!

      • Camille55 says:

Sure was! Maserati driving day, runway show at Ralph Lauren, events at Tiffany, Versace, Van Cleef & Arpels, Louis Xiii tasting, etc with lashings of champagne and funky gift bags to finish….are all a distant memory🤣

  • Junior says:

How long would an Amex to MB transfer take as a first timer? Want to book an early August trip before rates rocket!

    • TGLoyalty says:

      Not long 24hrs or so

      • Rob says:

It’s instant now if the accounts are already linked. Potentially a few hours for a first time transfer, and almost certainly no worse than overnight.

If you are worried, do a small transfer first. When it hits, check the availability / pricing is still there and do a 2nd transfer which should be instant.

Do the 1br suites have a door that closes? We’d want to hang out in one room and put the toddler to bed in the other

  • Dev says:

Booked this for 5 nights in July. Originally had 4 nights at crowne plaza Times Square to use up orphan IHG points but switched to this. Flight back is on the evening of the 4th night but considering 5th night is free, I can use it as a lte check-out option.

    Thanks HfP Team!

  • John says:

That was painful. 5 nights in October when 1st looked this morning 152k points. Had to run an errand, came back, spoke to Virgin about flights and made a cancellable booking, converted Plat Amex points to boost the Bonvoy total. Between calling Virgin and trying to book, points cost went from 161k to 329k. Mission aborted. You snooze you lose 🙁

    • TGLoyalty says:

Just seen the edit really didn’t think it would die so quickly. unless it was hammered so much the dynamic pricing engine has kicked in … issue with articles like this

      • Rob says:

There’s a bizarre circular logic there, because you’d never have known about it if we hadn’t written about it ….

        • Dev says:

Amen to that. I booked it 2 mins after reading it on HfP!

Btw, the app is ridiculous easy and quick to use. I did have to filter down to eliminate the 199 options that it shows for New York but it was super quick to nail down the 1br suite.

        • TGLoyalty says:

I did know about it … read about it in a forum yesterday afternoon

And it was on US websites last night

On one side it’s good for people that are “lazy” on the other it takes the fun out of the hunt for finding bargains themselves and it means it’ll be killed quick.

  • George K says:

Managed to snag a couple of nights for next month before the deal died. What was even better is I used an Amex free night award which brought the whole cost down to $11 and 43k points for two nights, on what would have been a $1200 cash booking.

I’d say that’s a result. But it better stick!

    • Rob says:

It will stick. The hotel doesn’t take the hit, Marriott does, and Marriott will swallow it.

  • Hilda M says:

Thanks Rob & especially BBetter for spotting it 😀 Got 2 suites @102k each for 3 nights later in July. Just checked again and not a huge increase – 123k for same nights

    • Rob says:

Yes, apparently the deals are still there for the next couple of weeks.
