IHG’s InterContinental Crete hotel opens

The InterContinental Crete hotel, which we first covered in 2022 and was expected in 2023, is finally open.

To quote:

Panoramic bay views and a rugged coastal backdrop set the scene for InterContinental Crete. The pristine coastline resort, complete with striking modern architecture and state-of-the art amenities, cocoons guests in its tranquillity, which is within walking distance of the cosmopolitan coastal city of Agios Nikolaos. The island’s capital, Heraklion and Heraklion airport can be reached in under an hour. 

Amenities of InterContinental Crete include two outdoor infinity pools overlooking Mirabello Bay, three Mediterranean-inspired restaurants led by prolific Michelin-starred Chef Consultant, Nikos Roussos, a nature-inspired wellness centre, and various family-friendly facilities. The hotel’s impressive selection of guestrooms, most complete with private plunge pools and many with interconnecting capabilities, are ideal for couples, families, or multi-generational travellers. 

At 199 rooms it is relatively modest by the standards of resort hotels. It will operate seasonally, closing on 2nd November.

The current top branded option in Crete is probably Marriott’s Domes of Elounda, which has been a favourite of HfP readers. I didn’t review my stay a couple of years ago – I preferred to cover BA’s odd link to the area – but a 14-year old reader wrote a review of Domes of Elounda here during our ‘My Favourite Hotels’ feature during covid.
