Park Hyatt London River Thames hotel is now taking bookings

Back in May I had a hard-hat tour (literally) of the new Park Hyatt London River Thames hotel.

This was, and may still be, the only article available which was written by someone who had been inside the hotel.

Park Hyatt London River Thames is in Nine Elms. It is at the far end of a surprisingly long swathe of new buildings, including the American Embassy, that has sprung up on the south bank of the River Thames. The run of buildings starts just beyond the MI6 building, which some rooms at Park Hyatt overlook, and carries on via a green grassy ribbon towards the reborn Battersea Power Station.

Park Hyatt London River Thames

Nine Elms is not known for its upscale hotels, and especially not a high-end luxury brand such as Park Hyatt. Even accounting for the huge number of new luxury residential blocks nearby (you may have seen photos of the two apartment blocks which are joined by a glass bottomed swimming pool), there seems little local demand.

I was intrigued as to what sort of pricing it would command, given that £1,000 per night is now the going rate for the top slice of five star hotels in London. In any other city, a Park Hyatt would expect to be in this top band.

Rooms are now bookable from 1st November. The hotel expects to open on 1st October but, to be safe, it seems that it is holding off taking bookings for October for now.

Rooms are bookable from £490 or 25,000 to 35,000 World of Hyatt points.

As a Hyatt comparison, taking 20th November at random, you’re looking at £490 for Park Hyatt, £418 for Hyatt Blackfriars, £477 for Great Scotland Yard and £446 for Hyatt Regency The Churchill.

Looking at similar luxury hotels for that date:

  • The Emory (all suite) £1,620
  • Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park £1,200
  • Mandarin Oriental Mayfair £1,090
  • 45 Park Lane £1,000
  • The Dorchester £970
  • One Aldwych £940 (!)
  • The Peninsula £935
  • Four Seasons Park Lane £930

…. so at £490 the Park Hyatt is taking a 50% discount for its location, effectively.

We look forward to seeing the finished product soon. It is very smart inside, I can promise you. You can book here.

    At GBP 490, there’s a 50% discount, yeah. I wouldn’t interpret as a discount for location, though.

Let’s wait and see where prices are in a year or two. I can think of multiple UK Hyatts where prices fluctuated heavily initially until they figured out what prices they can command relative to the competition.

  • Joe says:

As expected – PH London already on its way to being a Grand Hyatt. Horrific location choice. I’ll chuck a booking their way to support it in the interim though.

    • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

I’d hardly call it a “horrific” location.

No doubt they will do very well from people needing to visit the US Embassy for whom the Vauxhall Travelodge simply won’t do.

      • ADS says:

yes, Battersea Power Station is just 15 minutes walk away – and you even pass an excellent (large) Waitrose on the way!

        • Rob says:

It’s not a direct walk though. The green path / park only gets you part of the way at which point you are spit out onto the disgusting main road and forced to enter the power station estate from the rear, which it is not designed to facilitate.

  • BSI1978 says:

Perhaps worthwhile clarifying that the £490 seems to be for WOH members and is non-refundable?

    Looks like £555 standard rate.

  • Erico1875 says:

As it’s overlooking MI6, the top floors may be booked out by a disproportionate amount of Russian,Chinese and Iranian “guests” 😁

    • ADS says:

i came here to say this!

book a room on one side to record those entering/leaving MI6
book a room on the other side to record those entering/leaving the US embassy

  • Alan says:

I guess Egypt has good tourist links for EasyJet. The fact that a number of holiday companies sell their ‘packages’ (or at least some of them) using EasyJet flights would make this route choice make sense to them.

Personally if I had a choice of EasyJet, Ryanair or Whizz it would be EasyJet hands down.

    • SamG says:

I imagine Easyjet holidays themselves are a big driver of expanding this flying, they’re selling Luxor cruise holidays etc

      • Alan says:

Yes that would also make perfect sense. Also goes with my personal opinion that you are best if booking everything as a package to do so with the airline, as if there is a problem it is having direct contractual contact with the airline makes things a lot easier.

  • Gordon says:

Some of these comments on location, are echoed from the hard hat tour article, Hyatt have not gone into this with their eyes shut, I think they know what they are doing.

    • Joe says:

No they went into it with their eyes wide open at the amount of $$$ they were promised for the branding opportunity on the rest of the building’s apartments. Rob pointed this out on the previous comments, think this explains it all!

  • TGLoyalty says:

Actually interesting id stay here for £1500 less the competition especially as it’s really not that hard to get around London. £500 pn buys plenty of Ubers.

  • Bervios says:

Will look a lot better once Lambeth council restructure the bus station and change the road layout. Saying that , that was planned a few years ago so unsure of the delay.
