You may have forgotten that Groupon exists but it is still alive and kicking and has some decent travel offers on it.

The home page for Groupon’s UK travel deals is here.

Let’s look at some examples:

The Dilly hotel discount on Groupon

London hotel deals

Remember that you won’t enjoy any status benefits (or earn points) when booking hotels through third party travel agents such as Groupon. That means you can stay at hotels you might not normally consider, such as The Dilly, now a five-star hotel after being rebranded and refurbished from its previous life as part of Marriott’s Le Meridien brand.

The Dilly benefits from being a heritage hotel – having opened in 1908 – but with a fully renovated interior which was completed during covid. It is located just round the corner from Piccadilly Circus.

Sunborn Yacht Hotel deal on Groupon

Another unique experience is the Sunborn Yacht hotel, which is moored by the ExCel centre, near Custom House DLR/Elizabeth Line stations.

Sunborn is a purpose-built floating hotel and offers something a bit different to your run-of-the-mill property. The location also makes it very convenient for central London, without having to stay in Zone 1 itself.

We have previously reviewed its sister ship in Gibraltar.

The Groupon deal includes overnight accommodation as well as breakfast for two.

Airport lounge discounts on Groupon

Lounge access deals

If you don’t have lounge access included with a credit card, then Groupon is offering 25% off lounges at 20 UK airports including Gatwick, Heathrow, Manchester and Newcastle.

The deal is in partnership with third party Sky Parking Services and requires you to buy a £2 voucher which you then redeem when booking your lounge access.

A single £2 voucher will get you 25% off up to seven people on the same booking, so the more of you the better!

A quick glance on the Sky Parking Services website suggests that entry to the Clubrooms (with tableservice) at Gatwick costs £46. Factor in the 25% discount and you only pay £34.50, a saving of £9.50 when you factor in the cost of the voucher in the first place. The more people you book for, the more you save.

Vouchers are valid until 30th November 2025 so there’s no rush to use them.

…. or go on a surprise holiday

For something a bit different, you can also try Groupon’s mystery holidays with a range of destinations available for 2+ night holidays in Europe and further afield for £89 per person, including flights and hotel.

Itineraries are split into three tiers: 6 longer long-haul trips, 12 medium-haul packages or more expensive destinations (such as Disneyland Paris) whilst ‘tier 3’ holidays are 2-night stays to European cities.

The top destinations include:

  • 7 nights in the Maldives
  • 7 nights in Cancun
  • 7 nights in Thailand
  • 3 nights in New York
  • 3 nights in Las Vegas
  • 3 nights in Dubai

The packages include flights from most UK airports, although I imagine you need to be flying from London for some of the more exotic / unusual locations. Non-London airports incur an additional charge of £40 – £60.

The deal is administered by Weekender Breaks. Once you’ve purchased your voucher on Groupon, you need to redeem it by filling out the form with your preferred dates and departure airport. You’ll know where you’re going within 72 hours.

New customers get 15% off

Groupon is also offering a 15% discount to all first-time users. All you need to do is use the code ‘WELCOME’ at checkout.

The deal is valid for local deals, which includes everything from spa and beauty treatments to sightseeing tours, gyms, restaurants bars and more.

The maximum discount is £50, which you would get on a voucher spend worth £330.

You can see all of Groupon’s current travel deals on this page of its website.

A $5 purchase of Groupon US earns a few miles and keeps my AA advantage from expiring since the credit card was ditched. I have used a few of the Groupon US deals especially in Orlando – the go karting is fun and when I last used it at a much reduced price from walk up.

Ah Groupon. You can reliably tell which restaurants are failing in your area by seeing if they feature on Groupon – the last desperate throw of the dice for a failing business as (confirmed by the business experience of acquaintaces) the kind of customer you attract wants 5* treatment at a 2* price and will kick up a huge stink if they don’t get it – i.e. difficult, reputationally damaging and unprofitable.

Timelag between appearing on Groupon and closing is usually 4-6 months.

      Savage indeed !

    • Paul says:

I had exactly the same experience with some Amex offers.

    • TGLoyalty says:

Near me they are and always have been run of the mill chain restaurants with 30% or so off to attract more price sensitive customers. Or afternoon teas at 4* places.

Not sure any of them are failing just trying more dynamic pricing.

I personally like the first table concept far more and think there’s something there for other quieter times for the day / week. Without giving everyone a discount even if they would have come anyway.

      This is all so true.

    • Alex Sm says:

Sometimes shorter! I have experience of booking Groupon vouchers and coming to the restaurant with dusty windows and a pile of unclaimed mail at the door! 🚫

  • EvilGazebo says:

They did me over on some Odeon vouchers that didn’t work – “customer services” was a joke. Only a few quid but I won’t use them since.

  • ChasP says:

I stayed at the Sunborn near the Excel several years ago – a late bookings deal when there was nothing at the Excel so a very good price.
Nicely designed rooms – not huge but decent quality – I remember that the wardrobe doors were heavier/more solid than many hotel room entrance doors

  • JABS says:

Checked just one date for the Sunborn… Groupon was £70 MORE than the hotel’s own website.

A read of this at the top of the article, ‘ This article is sponsored by Groupon’ and move on to the numerous better and excellent articles on HfP!

  • Jonathan Price says:

If you book a holiday from the UK on Groupon, you will most likely be flying Ryanair and the flights you will be offered will feature a late night departure and an early morning retun thus shortening your effective holiday by two days. If you want to change those to an early departure and a late return, you can, but there will be a considerable extra cost. I have had this experience more than once so I know. The only good point is that you can get a good Avios return on your initial Groupon purchase.

  • Vanessa says:

No idea why you’d suggest the Groupon holiday here! I booked vouchers fully expecting Sofia or Prague… that’s exactly what I got offered. Even flying to these locations I was continually told I need to pay in. I told them I was free the whole of November and I understand I was going to get mid-week etc. I didn’t want to pay in or be upgraded constantly, if they were unable to get me a trip I just want a refund. Eventually I was offered a trip to Albania. The hotel & flights would cost me less to book direct. So disappointed in this. I only tried booking this as recommended via this page and normally the recommendations are sound or balanced on what the expectations should be. Save yourself the bother, book a mystery trip yourself.
