New Amex cashback offers: Marriott, Etihad, Hertz, The Peninsula, Millennium Hotels

A flurry of new offers has landed on American Express cards. You are unlikely to have all these offers, as they do not appear on all cards, but you should have two or three.

If you missed it, we covered a new Hilton cashback deal yesterday – click here – worth £50 on a £200 spend.

New Amex cashback offers

Marriott Bonvoy: Spend £400, get £100 back

Marriott Bonvoy is re-running its Amex cashback offers from earlier this year. Depending on which card you hold, you might see one of two variants.

Most American Express card holders will get:

  • Spend £400, get £100 back (25% return)

If you have the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card then you’ll get a better version:

  • Spend £200 get £75 back (37.5% return)

The list of participating hotels is here. It includes properties in Austria, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Nertherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.

The offer is available to the first 50,000 cardmembers to save it. Your account must be billed for the stay by 31st December 2024.

It’s worth noting that improved deals for Bonvoy American Express cardholders now seem to be a regular feature. With these cashback offers running twice per year at the moment, you can help justify the £95 annual card fee. Our full review of the Marriott Bonvoy American Express card is here.

Etihad American Express cashback offer

Etihad: Spend £800, get 15,000 Membership Rewards points

Whilst this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Etihad work with Amex, it is the first time we have seen it offer a Membership Rewards points bonus rather than a percentage discount or cash reward.

You’ll get 15,000 Membership Rewards points when you spend £800+ online at Etihad. Membership Rewards points can be converted into Avios, Virgin Points and various other airline and hotel schemes and should be worth at least £150 if used smartly.

According to the terms, spend must be billed to your card account by 7th November 2024, with bookings made via the Etihad website. Points should appear within 30 days, although “in some instances” can take longer.

You can see our review of Etihad’s Business Studio on the A380 here. I am a big fan of it, as well as Etihad’s onboard catering and new Armani/Casa bedding.

As the bonus is paid in Membership Rewards points, you won’t see this offer on any of the co-brand American Express cards.

Hertz: Spend £250, get £50 back

If you’re looking to rent a car, Hertz has joined Avis and Enterprise in offering a cashback offer.

You get £50 back when you spend £250+ on a prepaid rental on the Hertz website.

You need to book, rent and pay by the 30th November 2024. Given it is only valid on prepaid rentals I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s also valid on cars you rent for dates after 30th November, assuming you prepay now.

The offer is available on hertz.co.uk here.

Millennium Hotels cashback offer

Millennium Hotels: Spend £200, get £70 back

Millennium Hotels & Resorts, which runs the Millennium and Copthorne brands, has brought back its regular offer.

You will receive £70 cashback on a £200 spend. The offer has a long validity date, to 31st December 2024. It is only valid on checkout spend.

It is worth noting that – unlike most Amex hotel offers which are restricted to Europe – this one covers the UK, Singapore and the United States, plus a couple in Paris. The full list is here. The image above is The Chelsea Harbour Hotel in London.

Unlike the other offers listed above, this one can be used twice, meaning you could get £140 back in total. I’m not sure if Amex would be happy if you spent £400 on one stay and split the bill into two, swiping the same card both times! It’s certainly OK to split the bill if you have the offer across different Amex cards though.

We published a review of the ‘My Millennium’ loyalty scheme here.

The Millennium Hotels website is here.

Peninsula American Express cashback offer

The Peninsula: Spend £400, get £80 back

London’s first billion-pound hotel, The Peninsula opened the doors to its London outpost on Hyde Park Corner earlier this year.

It is now offering its first (I think?) Amex offer with £80 back when you send £400.

Given that the rooms at this hotel start at £1,000+ per night (to be fair, the rooms are very large compared to other luxury hotels in London), the cashback offer won’t get you far. It’s better than nothing, I suppose, and if you and your partner have it across multiple cards ….

Spend must be billed to your account by the end of the year – 31st December 2024 – but there appears to be no restriction on when you can stay.

The Peninsula website is here but you are better off seeing what other benefits you can get with Emyr Thomas, our hotel booking partner.

Currently those benefits include a fourth night for free, free breakfast, a guaranteed upgrade, $100 food and beverage or spa credit and more. Bookings via Emyr are paid at checkout as usual so there is no risk of not getting the cashback.

Do we expect to see similar IHG deals this Fall?

  • TJones says:

That “Millenium” in the headline is hurting my eyes.

  • Tom says:

The Peninsula Bangkok is cheap for a reason though and well off the pace of the best hotels in Bangkok, it’s long overdue a refurbishment.

    • Aston100 says:

And also on the wrong side of the river.

      • Rob says:

There used to be a free shuttle across to the Mandarin though.

That said, I don’t think its been redone since I was last there 17-18 years ago (before we had kids) and it was in need of a refurb then. Problem is that rates are too low to justify the expenditure.

        • Tom says:

There is a thread on Flyertalk making fun of the fact some of the rooms still have functioning fax machines…

      • SBIre says:

Yep – we used their car service to pick us up at the airport but to cross the river added about an hour versus the MO

  • NorthernLass says:

I’m wondering if Marriott has started taking these offers into account when setting prices. Just looked at a couple of hotels in Spain for next year and the pre-paid rates are actually higher than the flexible, “stay longer on us” ones …

    • TGLoyalty says:

They always are because prepay is 10% off and stay longer is 15% or 20% but you need to stay 3/4 nights.

Some properties do code them incorrectly and they work on shorter stays.

  • Steve says:

Marriott offer doesn’t include their Monaco hotel but every other hotel in France. Is that just a mistake or due to the jurisdiction?

    • Rob says:

Amex probably doesn’t issue dedicated Monaco cards and these offers usually ignore countries where Amex doesn’t have a base (hence Portugal and Ireland usually missing).

  • LaurT says:

Does anyone know if the Marriott Spend £200 get £75 back works for Prepay Non-refundable bookings through the Marriott website? Or it must be on checkout only (at the higher rates)

  • Paul says:

These offers also appear on my amex rewards card which is free forever. Dont be fooled by the value of the amex gold. For me, amex gold offers nothing that i cant get elsewhere for a fraction of the cost

  • Kevin says:

Is that a mistake the Marriott list doesn’t cover any Courtyard in Oxford?
