We don’t normally cover special offers run by the airline hotel booking websites, because they are usually weak.

If you’re booking a hotel via a third party, you are missing out on earning hotel points and you won’t get any elite status benefits. You are also likely to be overpaying compared to booking direct with a ‘member rate’ or similar.

A new Emirates offer is worth a look, however.

The Emirates Skywards Hotels website is offering 3,000 bonus Emirates Skywards miles on your next booking.

There aren’t many rules:

  • you must book by 11th November 2024
  • you must stay by 31st January 2025
  • only selected hotels will offer the bonus but it is made clear at the time of booking
  • you can only earn the bonus once

There are genuinely good deals here, assuming that you have a use for the Emirates Skywards miles.

I did a search for Sheffield hotels for a one-night stay next week. The best deal was 5,000 Skywards miles for a £103 boutique hotel – this comprises 2,000 base miles and 3,000 bonus miles:

If you wanted something mainstream and directly in the city centre, the Mercure St Pauls (which I can recommend) is offering 4,000 miles for £117. This comprises 1,000 base miles and 3,000 bonus miles:

How to earn Emirates Skywards miles from UK credit cards

How to earn Emirates Skywards miles from UK credit cards (April 2025)

Emirates Skywards does not have a UK credit card.  However, you can earn Emirates Skywards miles by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

Cards earning Membership Rewards points include:

Membership Rewards points convert at 4:3 into Emirates Skywards miles which is an attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 0.75 Emirates Skywards miles

The American Express Preferred Rewards Gold card earns double points (2 per £1) on all flights you charge to it, not just with Emirates but with any airline.

Once you click through the rate increased
    Not worth it then

  • Sam says:

I’d love to build up a stash of Skywards points for that aspirational trip somewhere but there’s no way I’d be able to earn anything meaningful within that 3-year hard expiry.
Until that rule is scrapped I don’t see the point.

    • Ian M says:

It’s not as hard you think you earn a lot of Skyward miles

      • Sam says:

Asides from the points earned direct through Emirates flights and Emirates Holidays (which we’ve booked through on numerous occasions) it’s only really the Amex MR cards isn’t it?

I recall Rob posting an Emirates branded credit card ‘proposal’ article a few months back but the benefits were meagre to say the least – the SUBs offered were comical.

They really need to scrap the hard expiry.

      • Lonjams says:

        Do elaborate.

        • PJJ says:

Hotels via Rocketmiles to Heathrow Rewards seem to offer more miles than direct to Emirates Skywards. Heathrow Rewards can then be transferred to Emirates Skywards.
Rocketmiles always seen to be a tad dearer though and as Rob says ‘no status benefits’

  • BlairWaldorfSalad says:

Skymiles can be earned via in store purchases whilst in the UAE. Re the commenter above asking how to earn
