Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

ba.com is only showing Avios seats for 335 days – but we have a fix

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

For a couple of weeks now, ba.com has not been showing Avios reward availability correctly.

I assumed, because it shouldn’t be a difficult one to fix, that it would be cleared up quickly and we wouldn’t need to write about it. By this point, however, I’ve changed my mind!

If it has actually been fixed overnight, at least you are spared any further problems.

ba.com is only showing Avios seats for 335 days

British Airways allows Avios bookings (and indeed cash bookings) for flights at 355 days before departure.

Seats open up at midnight GMT, so 1am at present as we are in British Summer Time.

Whilst many people aren’t bothered about booking Avios seats well in advance, it is important for some – especially on popular routes where the four guaranteed business class seats are likely to be the only availability offered.

There isn’t much logic in booking cash seats 355 days in advance. Unlike low cost carriers, British Airways pricing usually starts high and then drops down.

(Outside school holidays, the only routes where you generally must book at 355 days out for business class Avios seats are Sydney, The Maldives and Cape Town. These are routes with high Avios and cash demand, with little chance of additional reward seats opening up unless additional flights are added.)

What is the issue with ba.com?

The 355 day rule means, yesterday, it should have allowed booking for flights up to 13th October 2025.

And yet, looking at ba.com, you got this:

ba.com is only showing Avios seats for 335 days

The last bookable day you could select was 24th September 2025. This was 335 days – not 355 days – before departure.

However, all is not lost.

Go into the last possible booking day, which yesterday was 24th September 2025:

ba.com is only showing Avios seats for 335 days

As you can see, it IS possible to select dates beyond 24th September. If you click the ‘>’ sign at the end of the date list, you can navigate forwards.

After a couple of clicks, you end up at the ACTUAL final booking date, which yesterday was 13th October 2025:

Problem solved!

Hopefully the ba.com dropdown calendar will be fixed before too long.

Rob, are you planning on doing guides for more FF schemes in the future? Flying Blue, Miles & More etc

    • Rob says:

No. There are similar sites to us in those countries which cover this stuff better than we can.

Hello, I just came across your article as I have been trying to book an award flight on BA. No matter what I do ( using your work around or not) I get this error message:
    “Error
Sorry, it is only possible to book flights up to 355 days in advance. Please select an alternative date within this range.”
I have tried many dates between tomorrow to 9/25/25 and many different airports and I still get this error message. I have used different browsers, incognito, different computers and still nothing. I have booked award flights on BA before with success but still wonder, am I doing something wrong or is there a problem with the site?
