Get 250 free Nectar points (156 Avios) for 30 seconds work

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

It’s always worth keeping an eye on the Nectar app because it throws out occasional bonuses of free Nectar points, albeit they are often so well hidden you may struggle to find them.

You can currently claim 250 free Nectar points. These post immediately.

250 Nectar points converts to 156 Avios, although you need to convert in chunks of 400. You could also hold onto them until the new Nectar / Marriott Bonvoy partnership launches in a few weeks.

How do you get your 250 free Nectar points?

Go into the Nectar app and you will see a tile called ‘Your 2024 basket revealed’. You obviously will NOT see this if you never shop in Sainsbury’s so stop reading now.

This will show you how you fared among your fellow customers last year. It turns out that I am the No 1 buyer of Jus-Rol cinnamon rolls at Sainsbury’s Fulham Road, which was a huge accolade.

It seems that everyone gets the same amount. They appear to post immediately.

  • Kowalski says:

Using the app is also sending me round in a loop, been round 3 times now and have not received any points. Had to fire a VPN up also because the app doesn’t seem to work in the UAE!

    • NICHOLAS says:

Doesn’t work for me either, just keeps going round in a loop everything I click the button

    • Chris says:

      See Ian R’s post:
“If you’re stuck in sign in loop, try going directly to nectar .com in mobile web browser, log in, and launch the playback thing directly from there. The 250 Nectar should work then – it did for me.”

      • DeB2020 says:

Didn’t work for me. Not even in incognito mode. Can live without 250 points for sure! 😆

      • john says:

Thanks for the suggestion. Tried, but failed. No points so far.

    • John says:

If you’ve logged in in the UK it seems to keep you signed in for about 3 months outside the UK, but don’t know about UAE

The website works indefinitely with an EU IP address but not the app

  • Nick says:

Apparently I’m the #1 buyer of books in my local Sainsbury’s with ‘consumer privacy’ in the title? 😉

  • Ian says:

I’m the #4 buyer of Sainsbury’s mini cheese selection in Kendal. The level of detail I got about my shopping habits goes to show just how much data and insight I’m giving away!

    • Richard says:

You’re not giving it away, you’re selling it! Loyalty cards must be one of the very least pernicious ways of studying your purchasing habits…

  • Alan says:

I’m the number 4 in London (yes it seems whole of it) for buying Quorn Meatballs!

  • S879 says:

On HUKD people said it only showed for people who had done regular/many shops there. Not sure if that is correct.

  • Dez Berresford says:

#2 buyer of Star Anis in the East Midlands. Nice. They will insist on giving me bonus points to buy it.

    • Ian says:

The one thing I really notice about Nectar offers is that they keep offering points for products I’ve previously bought, but rarely for new items I might consider if there were bonus points!

      • Richard says:

I’ve wondered about that too – particularly as the offers are often on completely staple items like milk. They must be intended to get you to go to Sainsbury’s in the first place, rather than making you spend more once you’re there.

        • Scotsman says:

That’s exactly their strategy. They found higher engagement and repeat business from shoppers who could get discounts/points on their regular shopping rather than miscellaneous items. Also a cheaper way to retain business via personal discounts rather than through wholesale discounts which are costly.

    • Flier33 says:

What does one do with so much?

  • Max Kruger says:

Not sure if it’s just me, but all mine are wrong. Says I’ve shopped twice in the year, and earnt 3k points. I’ve shopped at least twice a week for all of 2024, and earn 3k points a month. My top products are also completely wrong

  • CJD says:

Number 13 in Scotland for buying the mini turmeric and ginger shots. Would probably have been higher but my local Sainsbury’s seems to have stopped selling them over the past few months.

Also thanks to whoever posted the incognito tip. Was going round in circles on the app yesterday.
