Get 250 free Nectar points (156 Avios) for 30 seconds work

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

It’s always worth keeping an eye on the Nectar app because it throws out occasional bonuses of free Nectar points, albeit they are often so well hidden you may struggle to find them.

You can currently claim 250 free Nectar points. These post immediately.

250 Nectar points converts to 156 Avios, although you need to convert in chunks of 400. You could also hold onto them until the new Nectar / Marriott Bonvoy partnership launches in a few weeks.

How do you get your 250 free Nectar points?

Go into the Nectar app and you will see a tile called ‘Your 2024 basket revealed’. You obviously will NOT see this if you never shop in Sainsbury’s so stop reading now.

This will show you how you fared among your fellow customers last year. It turns out that I am the No 1 buyer of Jus-Rol cinnamon rolls at Sainsbury’s Fulham Road, which was a huge accolade.

“No1 buyer of Jus Rol cinnamon rolls in Sainsbury’s Fulham road. You’ll never sing that”

  • Barnaby100 says:

There is a bit of a Sainsbury’s avios trick that I discovered by accident. I only use my nectar card to get my lunch deal of sandwich, egg pot and drink when at a certain client. I alternate sandwiches. I occasionally buy the £3.50 roses.

I always get these as bonus nectar points offers as it is all I buy on the card. So hundreds of additional points each month only on items I buy.600 to 800 typically on maybe 5 sandwich deal purchases and a bunch of roses. £20 spend maximum. We have a separate card for any larger shops.

  • Paul says:

Well that was far more than 30 seconds wasted as I don’t have the tile nor on the web site. But then I rarely shop at Sainsbury

  • John says:

    Not in my app!

  • Claire B says:

Great tip. I had missed it when I saw my 2024 shopping. Thank you.

  • BadOmens says:

#1 in Northern Ireland for buying 2Ltr Cherry Diet Coke.

  • Slliw says:

This was posted online a few days ago. It’s been well established if you are not a regular Sainsbury’s shopper the tile will not appear on the app. The post should be updated to reflect this as it’s not guaranteed you will be eligible for the points.

    • Roosit says:

Interesting, app says I’ve shopped there eight times last year (and I do believe this to be true), and I had the tile, as has my other half who also next to never goes there. I won’t complain if we’re an exception though!

    • John says:

Got it no problem on a card that I’ve used 3 times in 2024

  • PlaneSpeaking says:

I got the points with no faff and no ‘number ones’ for me although worryingly, number four on my list was ‘drinks’. I’m hoping this relates to Diet Coke and Lime Cordial rather than the regular dashes for the 25% off 6 bottles of wine promotions!
