Coming Wednesday: a great Marriott night out you can buy for 1 Bonvoy point

Marriott Bonvoy has been running the ‘1-Point Drop’ for a while now, primarily in the US. This is the first time that we have featured one in the UK.

It’s very simple.

At a certain time, an event will become bookable on the Marriott Moments website for a grand total of 1 Marriott Bonvoy point.

Stanley Tucci Marriott Moments

This upcoming event is pretty cool and I’m annoyed that I’m going to be away when it takes place on 24th April at London’s JW Marriott Grosvenor House hotel.

You and a friend will get to attend a cocktail reception and chat with Stanley Tucci, followed by a four course, wine paired, meal from acclaimed chef Richard Corrigan.

Not bad going for 1 Bonvoy point, which we’d value at 0.5p.

Tickets will become bookable at 4pm on Wednesday afternoon. There is a countdown clock here.

13 pairs of tickets will be sold for 1 Marriott Bonvoy point. A further two pairs will be auctioned. I suspect these will go for a decent points sum since the meal itself is worth around £400.

To quote Marriott:

Experience cocktails and conversation with Academy Award-nominated actor, writer, director, and producer Stanley Tucci in celebration of his new book ‘What I Ate in One Year’. After Stanley departs, members will enjoy a private dinner at one of London’s revered restaurants, Corrigan’s Mayfair, at JW Marriott Grosvenor House London.

To start the evening, members will hear anecdotes from Stanley about his life and his book through a moderated conversation with Edith Bowman, famed Scottish radio DJ and television presenter. During the chat, members will enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail and also have the opportunity to get their copy of ‘What I Ate in One Year’ signed by the esteemed actor.

After Stanley departs, celebrity chef Richard Corrigan will then introduce his four-course, wine-paired menu, featuring the very best English and Irish produce. A revered restaurant in the London restaurant scene, Corrigan’s Mayfair of JW Marriott Grosvenor House London was awarded London Restaurant Opening of the Year in its first year and three AA Rosettes within its first three months. It remains a coveted reservation to this day.

Experience includes:

  • Access for two (2) to the Marriott Bonvoy Moment event with Stanley Tucci at Corrigan’s Mayfair located at JW Marriott Grosvenor House London on Thursday, 24 April
  • Champagne reception upon arrival at Corrigan’s Mayfair
  • 45-minute moderated conversation with Stanley Tucci and Edith Bowman prior to dinner
  • Book signing with Stanley Tucci and one (1) signed copy of the book per person (2 books per package)
  • Four-course dinner with wine at Corrigan’s Mayfair with an introduction to the menu and anecdotes from Chef Richard Corrigan (please note each pair of Moments guests will be seated an their own table)

It should be a great night and I hope as many HfP readers as possible can get tickets.

If you don’t have a Marriott Bonvoy account, you can open one here. You can transfer 400 American Express Membership Rewards points across to get the one point you need (plus 599 to spare).

You could also buy 1,000 points here but I don’t think brand new accounts are able to purchase points.

Full details of the deal are here. Good luck!

Looks like a great evening! It will be interesting to see how much the auctioned tickets go for

    • Rob says:

You’d assume 100k is effectively the base price (value of the meal and drinks at 0.5p) but there may be a Stanley premium!

  • Andrew says:

These bonvoy events are extremely well run. I did one last year in Manchester with YouTube golfer Rick Shiels. The bonvoy staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble! Gl all!

    • Matthew says:

You did well to get it. I was trying to and they sold out in seconds before my eyes.

  • Fazzy Bear says:

The Lewis Hamilton 1-point drop crashed the website last year.

  • James187 says:

    Title should be:

Coming Wednesday: a great Marriott night out you canNOT buy for 1 Bonvoy point

Petty comment. I recall when the Hoxton used to sell rooms for £1. The vast majority of comments on the internet were calling it a scam, made up, etc etc. Needless to say, by being on the ball I think landed one three times out of four, just using my laptop and whatever wifi I could get onto.

Whether these deals annoy more people than they impress is something for the operator to decide. If you are trying to get a seat, best of luck!

I got a Qbic hotel for a £1 when it opened and Hilton Park Lane for £55 for their 55th birthday promo.

I was at Carabao Cup final the other day for 115k Hilton points in the very top level of hospitality (five course lunch with wine pairings and halfway line seats) which a hospitality firm had been trying to sell me for £1,500 + VAT per person a few days earlier.

I tend to get prime Avios seats by having a balance ready to jump on new route launches eg the new BA Cape Town flight added the other week.

Just need to be on the ball ….

      • Rob says:

Let’s assume Marriott could sell these for 100k per pair, so it ‘loses’ 1.3m points redeemed. Let’s assume Marriott’s net cost to fulfil a point redemption is 0.25p, which is probably high. Doing a 1-point Drop only costs them £3,250 in lost revenue (ie the revenue they would book from redeeming 1.3m points).

Without going into our rate card too deeply, if they had paid for this article it would have taken up a large chunk of that £3250, and that’s assuming zero publicity value from anyone else covering it.

I suspect Marriott knows what it is doing.

        • MT says:

It also allows them to produce another flashy promo video that it can put on in all its hotels and say how people paid 1 poin t for it. It creates an illusion of value to Bonvoy Points, very good marketing indeed!

      • a9504477 says:

I too got a Hoxton room 2 or 3 times at £1 but the odds there were not really comparable to the ones here.

      • James187 says:

I never said it was a scam did I?
Most people would understand I was referring to the chances of winning, and the title is pretty unambiguous that you can buy the experience for 1p, which you can’t so reel your neck in.

        • Rob says:

Eh? The definition of ‘can’ is VERY ambiguous. ‘Can’ has multiple definitions of which one is ‘used to indicate possibility’ which is the one used here.

  • Jordan D says:

The website will no doubt crash, like it has for previous 1 point drops.

Only infrastructure to match BA IT.

  • George K says:

Gutted I can’t be here for this. This is the sort of event I’d pay considerably more than 1 point for it if I could. Best of luck to all trying for it!

  • Matthias says:

Sounds amazing, thanks for the heads up. Funny that it still refers to the ‘drop time’ in US time zone – “11:00 CT”. At least they picked a time when Europeans are actually awake.

  • Paul says:

I sat beside Stanley at the Verona Opera festival a couple of years ago. No trying to get on the Bonvoy site, no use of points….well some IHG points for the hotel, oh and Avios for the flights. Nice man very quiet, unassuming and he liked La Traviata….who wouldn’t.
