If you’re a fan of The Kooks, Virgin Red has an allocation of tickets for an exclusive rooftop gig on Friday 16th May.

It takes place at the News Building at London Bridge, better known as ‘Baby Shard’.

Tickets are 7,500 Virgin Points per person (over 18s only). This is effectively £75 if you value Virgin Points at 1p, but with only 250 guests it will be a unique experience.

(For comparison, Virgin Red also has tickets for their concert at The O2 in October for 50,000 points for two. You’ll be half a mile from the stage there and sharing the night with 20,000 people, not 250.)

To quote:

Formed in Brighton in 2004, The Kooks climbed to success after signing with Virgin Records and releasing their certified five-times platinum debut album Inside In/Inside Out. Their success carried on as they won Best UK & Ireland Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2006, followed by a nomination at The Brit Awards. Continuing to produce music that resonates with fans around the world, The Kooks are a must-see this summer!

You’ll get up close and personal as they perform right in front of you from the exclusive 250-person audience. And if you can manage to take your eyes off the superstar (difficult, we know), you’ll have the stunning views of London’s skyline to gawk over too. Not only that, while the sun goes down and the tunes are turned up, you’ll be treated to a drink and some nibbles from your Virgin Red host.

These tickets are exclusively for Virgin Red members – yep, you’ll be a Virgin Red VIP. And because exclusive experiences like this are much better shared (someone needs to take all the snaps, right?), multiple tickets can be bought with your points but each redemption must be made individually. Make sure to get in quick because there’s only a limited number of tickets to get your hands on.

What’s included:

  • Sunset Session experience – an intimate live gig with a crowd of just 250 people
  • VIP access – a dedicated cloakroom, and a front-of-crowd area reserved for Virgin Red members
  • Welcome drink & nibbles – 1x welcome drink per guest, plus snacks included. A paid bar will be available for additional drinks (card only)

If you’re interested, you can find out more on the Virgin Red website here or in the app.

If your Virgin Flying Club account is not linked to Virgin Red yet, you will need to download the Virgin Red app and follow the instructions. Your Flying Club points balance will immediately be available for spending.

If you don’t have any Virgin Points, American Express Membership Rewards transfers are usually instant, although a first-time transfer may be delayed for an hour or so for security checks.

    who are these bands?!?!

    • BSI1978 says:

The Kooks were mildly successful in the early to mid Noughties, with their self-named 1st album doing pretty well on both sides of the Atlantic if memory serves.

Rode the wave of what my unimpressed flatmate at the time termed ‘soft indie rock’.

The fact they are still playing the 02 suggests they are still doing reasonably well, although don’t recall seeing a new album for ages.

      • Can2 says:

        thanks!

can’t believe that “indie rock” is still a thing..

Everyone plays the O2 these days. I’ve concluded it’s the power of YouTube. When I were a lad I used to spend all my pocket money on CDs, records, gig tickets (big names played Liverpool Royal Court, smaller acts played the uni or dingy nightclubs to a couple of hundred people) and band merch. Most shows I went to were standing-/moshing-only. Sitting down to watch music is totally wrong and far too civilised.

If someone worth hearing was on then I’d be tempted – until I remembered there’d be a chance of Chris Evans turning up so I’ve removed all such thoughts immediately.

I saw Suede at one of these a couple of Decembers ago through Virgin Radio. It is a bit like going to a gig in someone’s office though the views from up there are great.

You are VERY close to the band but the floor isn’t raked or anything like that. It was an open bar when I went – snacks were crisps. I see that Virgin Red have their own VIP area for this – there wasn’t anything like that for Suede. Other audience members are likely to be from the Kooks fan club and people who work for News International who have wandered down, still wearing their lanyards. It is likely to be a shorter set than an arena gig.

Definitely worth doing if you are a Kooks fan or just fancy doing something different.

Their new album is out in two days so I expect they’ll play a lot of that.

New Album? That’s when everyone goes to the bog or the bar…just play what everyone knows, but then again I only know one song of theirs.
